I've been successfully diet controlled for 11 years and was put on to a low dose of metformin 18 months ago. My HBA1C is now at a regular 36-38 so I suggested a trial being taken off metformin and the doc was supportive. I'm testing before and 2 hours after meals and my sugars are all over the place. I've dabbled with low GI and low carb but it doesn't really make a huge difference. I have been as sugar free as possible over the last two weeks and really watching what I'm eating but still get an average of 6.8 before meals and 7.9-13.2 after. I'm really keen to keep off meds if I can and need some dietary advice, please.
Can anyone out there help ???

Hi, and well done for those excellent HbA1c results.

Are you cutting down on all carbohydrates not just the sugary stuff?

How long have you been dabbling with low carb? You probably would be better if you kept to it for a while - it isn't necessarily an instant fix!

@jem1 snap!
It's those carbs which give me the biggest spike.
A bread roll or breadcrumbs on cod etc..
I'm wondering whether I should try for lower bgs in general to be able to cope with the odd spike.
Exercise you enjoy. Walking? Can hold the key if you've exhausted your dietary changes.
Simple walking seems to help a load of diabetics. Excellent for cholesterol too.
Give it a try and please let me know your progress. I'll do the same.
What activity do you do now?

Took about 4 weeks of LCHF for my blood sugar to come down , so might be worth giving it another go....
