Need a bit of advice folks

Have decided to do diet doctors keto challenge - looks great and very doable- but I because of home circumstances I like to have a little supper

I get up about 5.30 am get to bed about 1.30 am (yes that's all the sleep I get! - I have a son special needs that I have to be there for)

I eat my tea at 5pm - don't think I can do my "night shift" on no more food - this could lead me to failure especially as I'm an emotional eater and caring for my son is stressful and can be a bit of a emotional roller coaster!

Looking for opinions on "saving" a bit of my lunch for supper time (about 9pm) or can I drink as much bullion as I like
Any other ideas would be appreciated

Thanks :)

I can’t see any problem with that at all.

All these regimes need to fit into OUR lives, not the other way round, otherwise they are just doomed to failure. :D

When I did the DD thing (must be over 2 years ago) I liked it enough to carry on for nearly 6 months. The recipes (herbs spices and flavour combos) were amazing, and I still cook several of the recipes regularly.

But I did have a few surprises.

The portions are weird. I was cooking for 2 (me and Mr) and the portions seemed fine - until I realised that we were both eating the same sizes of food, and the weight fell off him from day 1, but didn’t from me. he is over 6ft, and I am 5ft 7. But even adjusting my portions over onto his plate, I don’t think I lost more than a couple of pounds, the whole time. He was eating extra on top, at work, too.

By about day 3 I gave up on breakfast. My body just couldn’t take the regular meals and fat intake. I found that odd but brilliant. Seemed strange to recoil at available food after a lifetime of trying to resist anything offered to me :)

It really is true keto. Fat, protein and veg carbs. In that order. And I learned a lot about how my body responds to sustained, regulated intake from it - even after eating keto for several years beforehand, the lessons just kept coming.

By the end, I was eating once or twice a day, no breakfast. Only snack was a couple of squares of v dark choc. Then I naturally slipped into one meal a day.

I right that you are on glic? I suspect that the raised fat intake may affect (slow) your digestion in unexpected ways, so you might want to watch for that...

Good luck. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I will tag in @Chook and @maglil55 because we all did it at the same time - and there is a thread around here somewhere recording the various highs and lows... ;)

Thanks for tagging me @Brunneria :)

@lovinglife I agree - I can't see a problem with spreading your food out over the day as long as the total quantity doesn't increase.

I also agree with @Brunneria that I also couldn't cope with the vast quantity of food in the DD Challenge and it wasn't long before I gave up eating lunch - I think the high fat element of the food was responsible for that. Like @Brunneria I also still cook some of the recipes and have recently used several of them to kick start my New Year's New Leaf. I did think about doing the Challenge again but I just can't eat that amount of cabbage or cream.

Thank you @Chook and @Brunneria - will have a read through of that this afternoon- regarding the fat content it is a fair bit more than I eat now so like you I may find I it's enough or even too much (my digestive system rebels with too much fat from dairy)

Looking forward to starting it though won't be until Monday as can't get shopping in till then - I'm going to drop my gliclizide but keep my metformin- will have to test though as last time I did extreme low carb in an attempt to be med free I still needed my gliclizide as my numbers began to rise :(

Agree with @Brunneria although I lost about 13 lbs. I did have the same issues though - way too much food and I too ended up cutting meals out. In my case though I disposed of lunch.
What I really liked about it was it gave me structure. I had my shopping list and I knew exactly what was being eaten each day plus you were only cooking once a day as the extra portion from dinner became next days lunch. I didn't count breakfast as cooking as it took very little time.
I ended up joining Diet Doctor and I'm still a member. When we did the 2 week challenge the meal plans were not the most user friendly but they have changed beyond all recognition now. You can adapt the meal plans to your lifestyle to allow for anything you want really. The recipes are excellent and pretty straightforward.
The 2 week challenge is a good place to start though to get you into that way of eating. The DD mantra is to eat until you are no longer hungry which happens very quickly so don't worry about removing meals. I reckoned by day 2 that I could not eat all that food. Now I create my own meal plans. Most days I'm breakfast + dinner others 1 meal a day - depends how I feel. There are also so many Keto sites that I include recipes from them too but DD is very complete.

My meals aren't big - I average 70g carb a day and about 1200 calories so used to small portions - my numbers are good, my weight loss has stalled somewhat and fancied a bit of a shake up and liked the idea of the shopping list and menu. I have no problem with the cooking and creating side of things as I'm a former chef but must admit my food has got a bit samey recently and felt I was in a bit of a rut

Will post how I've done after the two weeks - hopefully it will go well :)

@lovinglife my word you are adventurous! I have an adult “mental/emotional” special needs kid, but we finally arranged for him to have an apartment. He’d been in our home for 27 years and it was to the point I was ready to say, “ok kid, it’s you or me who’ll survive this, and I know who’ll win!” So my hat is off to you in a huge way for caring as you do. Keep us posted on how you get on!
Cabbagegate???? @Chook et al, *I* can eat cabbage all day!!!! I really thought it was one I had to give up, and I do miss it. Going to go look into this WOE that has too much cabbage. (The deal breaker is, if it has to be raw...)

Oh Lord - cabbage gate! I could hardly get anything else in the fridge for cabbage and the eggs?? It was the eggs that made me realise we were getting the numbers wrong.

I tried it a couple of years ago - not a resounding success I have to say. It wasnt the cabbage that did for me - it was the sheer size of the meals -I only manged a day and a half and didnt get anywhere near finishing a single meal - the amount of fat made me quite nauseous too
