if my dad finds me unconscious or about to be does he inject me if so how many units

A good quesrtion @Craigwer .
I think it best that you ask your nurse about this.
And if you look on Home page under Type 1 diabetes: Hypoglycaemia and Ketoacidosis.

You would need to speak with doctor or nurse and maybe have a script for a medication called
'glucagon' dispensed but your Dad would need to know have to use it (prepare it and inject it).

Carrying a 'hypo kit' on you is common practice amongst T1Ds - gluco-tabs for example and
your Dad knowing what other things can help in case of a hypo - plus when and when not to
apply food to someone who appears to be lapsing into unconsciousness.

I think you asked before about carrying a medical ID bracelet so that a stranger can know that
you are diabetic and to help them know what to do!!

Thanks for the advice
And I'm just waiting for my id to come in the post

Hi @Craigwer are you meaning if your glucose levels drop ? Just to be clear if your unconscious due to low glucose levels then make sure your dad knows NOT to inject insulin and knows how to administer glucagon instead. Keeping everyone informed around you is important.

I've been diagnosed 7 years now and have never been in a state which has required third party assistance from going too low, at some point your nurse will explain how to administer a glucagon pen and its probably wise to take your dad with you when your told how to do it. I keep glucogel in my bedside so if I do need help this can be rubbed into my gums. You may or may not need it but always make sure there's someone around you who knows what to do if required.

As @Juicyj points out above. Do NOT inject insulin if unconscious through suspected low blood sugars. You may never wake up if this happens. I don’t wish to be alarmist but I believe it’s not possible to overstate this.

I strongly agree.......please take notice of this!!

Yes, never ever inject insulin if a diabetic is unconscious. If you can provide some glucose thru drink if conscious or thru glucose tablets or similar (crushed to avoid choking)

I was told to not give glucose through a drink because of choking

I agree with everyone, never inject insulin if a diabetic is unconscious. I had a similar incident where my housemates thought I needed more insulin because I couldn't talk or move during my hypo state. but I had enough mumble to make it seem like "NO! I don't need more insulin, I need help".

I agree you need to take great care such as rubbing the inside of the mouth with glucose powder or a little liquid that doesn't risk choking. However if someone is unconscious thru a hypo then they are in danger of brain damage if the BS goes far too low.

Scary it's only been about 2 and a half week ish sense i was diagnosed with type 1

I'd like to add in that it is highly unlikely that you will ever be found passed out. It is our biggest fear but rarely happens.
