Hello, I'm not really one to tell people my problems but I'm 16 years old, just left high school and I've nearly been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes for 3 months now and I can honestly say I just want it all to be over, everyone tells me it'll get easier but I really don't understand how it possibly could:(
I don't know how to cope with it anymore, I'm so useless with it all and it's so hard :(

It sucks I know. Everyone has a stress period that takes a bit of time. It won't seem like it now but it will become just a small part of your day.
Don't be too hard on yourself because it takes time to learn and even then there are days when readings don't make sense

There is a teen page here where you can talk to others in the same boat. FB and twitter too
 
Hello and welcome to the forum. It is a shock to the system and it will take time to ease into a good diabetic regime. It must of knocked you for six, but honestly we DO get through it, I have been type 1 for 25 years and my little granddaughter was diagnosed at 2 1/2 years old and it broke my heart. But she copes really well and like so many other's on here, WE rule diabetes and diabetes doesn't rule us!! There are other teens on here, so have a little look around the forum and remember you're not alone. Take care with best wishes
 
Jack and RRB have given some great advice. What you currently feel is completely normal. There is a period of shock that we all go through. In my opinion, the best way to deal with this shock is to educate yourself. Learn as much as you can about diabetes and this shock soon turns to acceptance. Generally, people are afraid of the unknown, eventually it'll become the norm, just like brushing your teeth. Take care :-)
 
Hello and welcome to the forum. Sometimes it is good to share your problems with others in the same situation, hopefully you will feel less isolated knowing there are lots of people willing to help you through the initial stages of coming to terms with your conditions. Everyone goes through the fear, disbelief and anxiety of being diagnosed with Diabetes and it's only natural that you are going to feel confused, useless and unable to cope to begin with it is a lot to take on board, but it will get easier, it just takes time to get into a routine.

Have a chat to some of the members on the teens forum and share your feelings with them. There are quite a few people on here in your age group who will be only too glad to share their experiences with you too. Learn as much as your can and ask questions. You have made a good start in joining the forum, everyone on here is very friendly and supportive.

Hi and welcome. Let us know the aspects that give you the most concern and we may be able to help in some way. I can assure you it does get better and we've all been thru it one way or another so you're not alone.

My son is 15 and just got diagnosed type 1 around 4 weeks ago. I know he feels exactly the same as you do. He wanted to join the Navy but that's out the window now, so he is struggling a bit. From what I've read on here in the past few weeks, it will get easier the more you educate yourself. My son doesn't want to deal with it, so I'm educating myself, trying to find ways to help him.

Seems like s**t at moment doesn't it...???

I remember it well. no forums in my days-so had to cope by myself... However..... After crying myself to sleep for 6 weeks I thought..." Hey, I'm better than this s**t..... " I still have a life, I'm still here"....

So 30 years on...and now I can lecture you due to the progression of internet".....

Life isn't s**t unless you give in to all the **** (not just diabetes). So do everything you can to live normally, do your bolus's etc...do your tests... Come on..... They take seconds.

You haven't got a fatal illness. You got a bloody good liveable one.... There's loads of us that had **** good life's and so can you!!!

It just actually means you check things more often than others.... But hey, they going to probably get fat and have probs long term. You know about your probs whilst young.... Use that to your benefit..

Watch others get fat, and eat **** and get their own health problems later... You been given a chance to look after your health and well being...grab it now and say.(not allowed to say these words.....) -"i'm good and can do anything I want to"

Takes a while to stop feeling sorry for yourself....but hey... You can still have a **** good life...x

hi and welcome.
It is very hard and daunting for alot of people newly diagnosed, hard part being ultimately its down to us all to control. Were given the tools, insulin and meter and basically left to it,sort of being our own doctor/dietician.
It WILL get easier, learning what works for you. speak to your diabetic nurse/consultant about basal testing/carb counting/dose adjustment.
Have a read up on type 1 and chat/read some posts here, ask any questions, very helpful people here. It will sink in and become the norm eventually.

You can't be useless with it all......

You are here... And ultimately needing reassurance from others that have got through 3months and are ok.

Well after 3 months....I felt the same as you.... But, heck... It does get better... Look at my sign off signature.... Loving life........that's true.... I really do... Diabetes isn't the worst..... It is the best learning in life that you will get......
