Herbal treatment?

Is anyone using herbal treatments and possibly on top of taking meds like metformin?
I've been reading about taking supplements or adding herbs to food such as fenugreek, bitter melon, cinnamon, turmeric and more.
While there doesn't seem to be much actual proven research on these I am thinking it's worth a try.
Any advice is welcome. And of course, I'd only buy the items from a reputable source eg Holland and Barrett.

Do you take them as supplement capsules? Which and when? How often? Where do you buy them? How long have you taken them? Sorry for so many questions.

I stared taking cinnamon tablets on 22nd January. I started on two tablets per day then after a week moved to three per day. I bought them from a Company called Simply Supplements via Amazon. Their products are made in the U.K. and reviews etc are excellent. Here is the graph showing my average daily blood sugar measurements, as you can see there is a small but significant drop from when I started the tablets.

EDIT to add I’m on Metformin too.

I'm ℞'d digestive aid capsules to relieve extra ✻gas✻ ..and also use an OTT vitamin supplement.

Consult your HCP before self-medicating with ✻herbal treatments✻ ..a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

I think the spice Girls said it best "Spice up your life":woot:
Garlic, ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, nutmeg are all reported to have benefits in controlling dubieties. You should be able to add at least one of these spices to every meal you cook.

Balsamic vinegar is said to reduce blood glucose concentration, keeping blood sugar from spiking in T2.
It's easy to add to any salad.

I read Magnesium is hugely beneficial to you liver peanuts are a great source of Magnesium.
You can cook with them add them to a salad or just snack on them.

You know what you like to eat @dazzeur take some time and google every thing you put on your plate. :bookworm:
Look into the health benefits of every morsel you eat. I did this and now I have found a few more things to add to my plate.

But life's to short to have to eat Cucumber! ;)

Unfortunately balsamic vinegar contains enough sugar to show a difference in my readings - and peanuts, being a legume are not something I can eat..
I do use ginger and cinnamon in drinks, and to a lesser extent turmeric in my cooking, so there could be something good in those - I have always had 'real' ginger beer and put cinnamon in my coffee.

What about apple cider vinegar for cooking with would that work for you?

Do you get magnesium from anything else?
Spinach or avocado perhaps or even something as simple a relaxing bath with epsom salts?

Sorry @dazzeur I wasn't very clear in my last reply.

The reason I was suggesting more spices and real food apposed to supplements is they can pass through your body before you have a chance to absorb them properly. So your not getting the full benefit you expect. :bookworm:

I use cinnamon and sprinkle it on My Greek Yoghurt or into coffee etc. . I have read that Ceylonese Cinnamon is the one that works Not Chinese but this may be an advertising ploy to sell it. I cannot say that it lower my blood sugar but after About 2 0r three month I noticed my reading had become more consistent with less spiking but again cannot say definitively because of exercise meds and diet etc. Not exactly a herb but latest food claiming to Lower Blood Sugar is Mangosteen Carbs 15.6 Link

Some of those quoted (cinnamon, ginger, turmeric, garlic, nutmeg - and also apparently bay leaves) have always been an integral part of my cooking, and sometimes I 'll drink some of them them as ingredients in herb teas. But since I've used them for many years before I was ever diabetic, I can't tell whether they have any beneficial effects.

The only known - but unfortunately adverse! - effect, which I've posted about before, that I get is from cinnamon which is a blood thinner, and too much of that can provoke bad nose bleeds so I need to be very careful quantity wise. But maybe there's a relationship between thinner blood and reduced glucose levels??
