Hi and welcome

I am guessing you are type 2? As you don’t mention insulin. Have you looked at the low carb diet information? Post a typical days food and there are lots of very helpful people who can point you in the right direction to lower your HbA1c This is a great forum for support and advice

So you've got a meter? That's an excellent first step. Basically, if you drop the carbs and test before you eat and 2 hours after, you should both see your levels come down and also be able to determine whether your body can cope with the carbs in your meal. (Ideally you want a rise of less than 2 mmol/L).

That's assuming you have a T2 diagnosis, of course.

Just a quick heads up that your hba1c corresponds to an average blood glucose of 12.5 over the last 3 months. If your average bg is now 18.9 (and doesn't come down with metformin and/or low carb) then you probably need to hassle your medical team, who possibly don't know about the recent increase.
