Hello to all.

I'm a 40 year old male, diagnosed with type 2 in Nov 2010.

Still struggling with it as I feel lousy every minute of each day. My GP has been fairly good and given me 50 test strips a month so I test each day at waking and then again at around 2100hrs.
My morning readings are always around 9 and sometimes up to 11.
Im on metformin but it does not seem to be helping much and I have my 3 month check in March.

I have joined the forum as I need to change my lifestyle drastically and Im hoping to learn from you good people.

Regards

J.

Hi J and welcome to the forum :) It sound as though it might help you to follow the basic advice we give to people who join the forum on how to manage their diabetes with information about diet etc. This could be very helpful to you. Try testing more often, since you can get the strips, as set out in this link in order to see how food affects you. How you eat is very important and you should feel better if you follow this advice:

Have a good read around, use the search facility then ask as many questions as you need to.

Thanks Guys. Got to say I had a look around about foor etc and have decided to cut out all carbs for a few days and Im feeling so much beeter already. On day three, my readings on waking are down to 5.2! Also changed over to decaf coffee as I have about 10 cups a day and changed over to honey instead of two spoons of sugar in it as well. Ideally I need to cut that out as well, but need to do things solwly.I know I need more time to see if it is more of a lucky patch rather than really working but its the best I felt for a while. I have been out working on the allotment today for 5 hours and believe u me, last week this time I felt so ill every day I did not want to do anything.

Thanks Again.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats with the progress you have made so far!

Hi, and welcome.

Try Splenda tabs as a sweetener - they make it out of sugar but it only has 0.5g carb per tab, doesn't affect bg, and tastes like sugar.

Sorry Viv.....Splenda......

The finished product contains no elements of natural sugar. It is made in a chemical plant, not in a sugar cane or beet field. Splenda is a highly processed chemical. Despite advertisements stating “Made from Sugar so it Tastes like Sugar”, which attempt to confuse consumers, Splenda is not natural.

I use it with no problems and will continue to do so but it is actually made from Sucralose.......not Sucrose.
