High Bg In 16 Month Old

Hi, I have type 2 diabetes, my daughter gave birth her first baby 16 months ago, a healthy boy weighing 10lb 12.5 oz. I was checking my BG levels today and my grandson handed his finger over wanting us to do the same, his level was 21.7. Surely this high BG isn't normal is it?

Did you wash his hands before testing? If he had even a tiny trace if something sugary on them that could affect the reading.

Could you wash his hands and retest? If you have any concerns about his health, then definitely see a doctor for a proper check.
 
Was your reading "okay" If not the meter or test strips could be faulty ..... I think though it's unlikely the baby is Type 2, given the age!

I think the OP is more concerned about the possibility of a Type1 diagnosis.
 
@fionamarie Did you manage to retest?

For those concerned, the signs of Type 1 are the '4 T's' - toilet, thirsty, tired and thinner.

Sorry no, shes taken him home now. Will test again when I see him, he is always drinking, and passing urine, but hes of average build for his age and doesn't sleep excessively. x
 
I think it needs to be established whether hands were clean.... I know I was driving years ago and my hubby decided to do a blood test on himself.. It showed in the 20's. I was. Going to deviate to hospital... But webwent homeband washed hands.. He was absolutely normal.

A GP appt maybe necessary but I would personally make a point of doing things 100% first. Wash n dry hands, then test. The sooner, the better..
