High Blood Sugars When Socialising

Having had the libre for sometime now, I have noticed that I always get high blood sugars when socialising. They tend to go up to 14 or 15, even though I low carb and inject plenty of fast acting insulin. Of course it is always difficult to get them back down again too! For example, we had people to dinner over the weekend, and I served white fish, with a salad, and new potatoes (I had 1 small potato). For dessert I had berries and creme fraiche. This is not unlike a dinner I would normally have. in the week, and would inject 5 units insulin. So i injected 7 units, but still went up to 14/15mmol/l.

Since then i have sturggled to get my BS under 9. I am going on holiday this week, a touring holiday so will be eating out and socialising all the time. I am a bit worried about how high my BS will be. Any tips?

Although you may not realise it you could be slightly stressed when socialising which can cause high bg levels.

See how you get on with your holiday, it may be a different scenario altogether, but if it isn't then you'll have to compensate with more insulin I'm afraid.

I agree with @noblehead about the stress. Another possible cause is that and a combination of inactivity. I find when I have friends round meals tend to be longer and I sit around more whereas normally I'll be up and about tidying and keeping active.

Don't make any assumptions about how your BS will behave on holiday. I find sometimes I can go low too. Just test lots and be prepared for both highs and lows. All you can do is test and correct (with insulin or food, depending on the result) as needed.

Enjoy your holiday :)

I find the opposite when having friends round for food, I go low, it's my brain using up all my glucose to think about what i've got to do. Stress as suggested is a contributory factor for running high. I also find on holiday I go low, it's the heat more than anything so take care, lots of testing and yes the libre would be great for keeping a watch on things.

I'm not T1, so don't have to juggle the insulin puzzle, however, at a recent conference, I met a couple of fellow forum members, and Admin for the first time, as well as observing a number of presentations from speakers I respect. The whole day my numbers were up just a shave. Myself and one of the others was also sporting a Libre on the day and her increase was more marked than mine. I wasn't at all stressed, but put it down to excitement.

Enjoy your holiday @linda321 , I do hope your weather is kind to you.

Thanks for your replies. Yes I had suspected that it was a stress response, although I don't feel stressed! I feel reassured by your replies,so will be testing and correcting as necessary! Thanks again:)
