High cholesterol on a lchf

I get a combo of D and K2 in one tab from Boots. Just one a day and enough tabs for 6 months.

For me I see the other angle too.. That we all have to die at some point.
I personally worry that any diet that reduces any vitamins / minerals or indeed heightens others may cause other illnesses such as cancer or critical illness such as arthritis etc..
I often wonder did my lowering carbs for all my adult life contribute towards my stomach giving up working or my cancer? I chose that option of eating from a young age - I didn't even realise til this forum that I was a lower carber way before it was known as lchf. It was just my way of life. Did it contribute towards other illnesses? Don't know...it may well be all bad genes. I just worry that people may be trying to avoid heart problems but giving themselves other illnesses...I agree that none of us are immortal.. Yes ut would be good to just go to sleep and not wake up but even that is effectively heart stopping working.. Having now fighting to keep my colon and stave off more cancer I am a little concerned that people just focus on diet and cholesterol...
I have another angle too that I am very aware of, and that is did my use of Actos and Avandia medicines contribute to my two strokes and my heart attack? Did the statins I was on until recently contribute to my painful finger muscles, or is it neuropathy from high blood sugars? Don't know.
Now you have more info about diet, if you had it back then would you have made different choices? I started a thread here specific to LCHF, in which I questioned the diet in much the same way you did in your post just now, i.e. mins, vits, micronutrients, the 'dangers' of high fat, lipids etc. It was well discussed, but I am still doing it because the diet makes sense to me, and recent research still supports it as viable .But I try to keep my eyes and mind open for possible contraindications that may change my mind. (Some here will disagree with me on that because of recent discussions I have had here). All I can say is that this thread has recently made me modify my thoughts so I am not set in concrete yet. I too am still a newbie, still learning. Although I support a particular diet, I do not worship it, or its proponents either.

No it wasn't, the surgery says that you don't have to have a fasting test anymore, wish I had known about the triglyceride level would not of eaten those scratchings!!!!!!
My GP always tells me to fast for 12 hours when I have my blood tests

I was for 30+ years of my adult life low carber (without knowing it). When I look back I question whether adding 6months of higher carb (on advice) led to my other illnesses now or whether the low carbing did.

Huge amounts of people get cancer..... Most don't low carb. I now have a lot of tumeric, astragalus, ginger and fruit (either tablets or in smoothies) each day that I never did...I'm really sorry for putting this in but I currently feel that cancer is a lot worse than diabetes... I have to fight the cancer too....

I didn't realise I was a lower carber until this forum. I paid a lot of attention to my diet / bloods on the basis of diabetes could cause horrible complications. I paid no attention at all to other diseases. I readily admit I did not eat fruit.....until I was told to eat breakfast a few years back after persons told me to have toast/porridge and I changed to berries and yogurt...

I just honestly wish I had taken note of the need to ensure all vitamins and nutrients were fulfilled... Not just fat, protein n carbs.

I wish I had looked at ginger, turmeric, astragalus, francinsense. I can't go back but I can implore others to look at the whole picture of all round diseases..

People can control diabetes/cholesterol by their chosen diets that suit them. Cancer nobody really has a clue....and in this disease operations, chemo and radio are the preferred horrible "controllers" or options given when you discover you have the illness. It is life changing.. We have no control over it.. We don't know if and when it will return.

Keep looking after diabetes but please ensure you all have full nutrition....

There has been a study recently suggesting a possible link between high fat and intestinal stem cell changes.

I was always lower carb but didn't consider I had enough fat after reading advice here. So initially I went for the heavy saturated creams n cheeses, yogurts etc (about 5 months). Then went to the avocado's, olive oil, olives.....avocados apparently are not good for cancer!!!

Thats why now I eat melon, blueberries, spinach, raspberries, banana, coconut water, apple. and orange, organic protein in smoothies. Then have say broccoli, spinach n stilton soup as I can't eat cabbage, brussels etc in soups., and need green veg. Also have root veg now like butternut squash, carrots, parsnips as they go through stomach providing well soft!!

Meat is a big no no as it is totally indigestible. I also add butter/coconut oil and lactose free milk and yogurts.

Its hard when now having to look at B12 levels, cancer, cholesterol, stomach and diabetes and sweetener and preservative free and mushy foods too.
Thankfully have good BC nurses and wonderful gastroenterologist and superb GP and dietitian trying to keep weight on me.

I just hope that others don't end up with significant other diseases from concentrating on just one disease and the nutrition for that....

Thanks sunnyexpat for info.... Good info.. Thankyouxx

Wish I could say obesity was a factor.. Apparently I have read elsewhere than being thin after cancer diagnosis can lead to it being more likely to return!!

What a battle to stay alive!!

As this is a possible specific cancer related to excess fat consumption, it's possible that the obesity is an indirect link, due to the normal prevalence of high fat being more common in a high 'everything' diet.

My son is currently undergoing chemotherapy in hospital. Round 2 of 9, I believe. He is very positive about it. He jokes that he will soon have less hair than his dad. His hairy legs will suffer too. He will no longer have Hobbit feet.

As a note of interest, he has been advised to follow a LCHF diet similar to mine, even though he is a non diabetic.

Not sure how you reach this conclusion, since the diet has already been declared as Lower Carb for many years, and the increased fat intake was relatively short duration and recent. You are also making assumptions about obesity being a contributing factor which is not mentioned in the post you are replying to - in fact there is a mention of trying to put on weight, hence presumably the increase in fat.

Er, I think we were talking about the study in the link, if you read it?

Did the report say that the autopsies actually confirmed an increase in tumours in the overfed mice? I did not see that, only statements that such tumour activity was 'possible' It would have been nice if the team had garnered numerical data and compared against a control group They obviously had the opportunity to collect this data.

This paper has the smell of "If A is true then it must follow that B is the consequence". Yet another case of MIT publishing a report without including the data, after spending so much time and money too.

Since you're doing a lot of liquid meals, you might be interested in this micronutrient smoothie that researcher Dr Rhonda Patrick recommends for meeting daily micronutrient requirements:

Sorry to divert the post!!

I've recently switched from all my pills to Good Green Stuff from NuZest. I've commented on it in detail in a new thread within the nutrition/food section of this forum.

Really helpful video.. Kale is ok, have everything else except tomato... But generally have these in soups or chopped and skinless with spinach n scrambled egg. Looking at nutrition needs as a whole is a nightmare.
I take magnesium citrate daily for my bowel.. But it doesn't help!!-lol!!

Thanks for video. I know I'm on the right tracks now... Albeit damage may already be past helping!!!
On positive side "things can only get better"...

Thanks.. Will look at...trouble is I have to get the calories too!! People say to be wary of smoothies from cafes due to high calorie content... But that must be for people that eat normal food. I find it so hard to keep weight on!!

The commercial smoothies are a no-no because they usually have LOTS of added carbs / sugar, you can have high calorie smoothies with full fat yoghurt, cream and coconut cream, to keep up the calories bur minimise the carbs.
