My first thought on the forum when I saw high fat, "was eat as much fat as you can to stay healthy."
Then many members explained what high fat really means when your on a LCHF diet.
There does not seem to be any defense recommendations when the body stores bad fat deposits that can be tough to break down and eliminate.
I know that they are good water flushes etc; to clear the body from bad fats.
LCHF members must feel that the words High Fat sounds wrong in many ways.
I am on a "vegan good fat type diet" a least it sounds better and even healthy.:):)

I agree that LCHF is misunderstood by many people. The low carb bit is fine because we all know that carbs equal sugar, but the high fat bit is difficult to interpret. Personally, I have increased my fats just enough to make up the calorie deficit caused by less carbs, basically by ditching the low fat dairy products and going back to the real thing without overdoing it. So I say my diet is LCMF. (moderate)

I am on a lacustrine, riverine and esturine diet.

It's not as restricted as one might imagine :)

I prefer Low Carb Healthy Fat myself-I don't fear natural fats and enjoy them but I sure don't eat blocks of lard on their own or add whale blubber to my Gin and Tonic. :)

I doubt anyone fears fats, (well, obviously if you have lipophobia you do).

I even had a spot of single cream on the blueberries and melon just, but I'm allowing for the fact I've spent the day running up and down two flights of stairs all day, and will be doing the same for a few more hours, so I'll easily burn the calories off.
It is the first cream I've bought for several months, having said that.

I don't consciously high fat- always disliked full fat dairy stuff apart from cheese so I still have low fat Greek yogurt, creme Fraiche etc though I check labels for hidden sugars( Asda put tapioca starch in their low fat CF!) and skimmed or semi skimmed lactofree milk. Only ever used butter on baked spuds and as they are off menu no need for it. I try and eat lean processed meat but do eat fat in pork etc, though probably less than I did before diagnosis as my taste buds have changed. I certainly don't do bulletproof coffee, lashings of cream etc. I agree that the low fat message is one that has led to the over consumption of carbs with all its consequences, but I'm pretty sure our ancestors weren't stuffing their faces with high fat dairy either so it is all about balance in my book, and eating enough good fats like Olive oil to make up my calorie shortfall ( which isn't much as I have weight to lose too)

I think high fat is a very good idea indeed for diabetics. All in all I go for around 150-200 grams of fat per day so yes, I take the HF part of LCHF very seriously while I usually stay below 25 grams of carbs per day.

Hope you are getting your essential vitamin B12 :)
I get b12 tablets from Healthspan.
I have been told if you do not peel or wash carrots etc; ( bit doggy due to pesticides ) you should get your necessary supply of B!2".

Blimey look at all that b12, no not the sheep. ( I do miss lamb chops )
I must compliment you for being a very good and fair member on this Forum. I always like what you write and feel your professional wisdom shows using simple methods that most of us can understand.

I'm similar. I have, eggs, cheese and full fat yoghurt. Interestingly fromage frais is virtually fat free and has less carbs than the ordinary greek yoghurt I have. I have mozzarella or feta cheese and nuts, also mackerel, salmon or tuna. I use olive oil and coconut oil.

I don't fancy fat balls. :-(

Should always wash veg ... it's been growing in mud and **** and then some guy chucks ICI all over it!
Quick scrub with a nail brush for my carrots.
Even the home grown ones could well have lystyria or whatever from the soil.
Probably got the wrong bug there but you get my drift.

On a low carb diet, we need to eat enough fat to maintain our energy needs. Its got double the calories of carbs, wt/wt so we actually eat less in total.

Trouble is, everybody has been told the "low fat" message so often that they believe it. In my experience, arguing LCHF, increasing fat consumption, including sat fat is a near impossible barrier to acceptance by health professionals of the successful diet many of us here enjoy.

Yes, especially dieticians. I am meeting with my dietician tomorrow morning. At the first meeting a couple of months ago she gave me the spiel about eating the government endorsed high carb diet and saying we need to eat carbs. I mentioned I had recently cut way down on carbs, but I don't think I told her I was going to replace the carbs with saturated fat, which is what I mostly did. I got new cholesterol and A1C results last week and they are improved over the last ones 3 months ago. I'll be interested in her reaction to the improved LDL, total cholesterol and triglyceride numbers and weight loss and much lower blood glucose levels. I won't tell her what I've been eating until after she comments on them. This should be fun. I will also ask her if any of her other clients have tried LCHF and if they have had better or worse success than her HCLF clients.

Peel and wash carrots, washing alone won't do it. The skin absorbs sodium which is the element in salt which can damage the heart and/or kidneys. It's not necessarily a problem for many people but on this forum, there are those who have to be careful about damage to the heart and their kidneys should be looked after. Carrots are often grown with fertilisers which contain sodium nitrites.
