High glucose readings.....

The test strips are over a year old. I'm afraid I have not been using them regularly at all, still a wee bit in denial to be honest.
Have you checked the expiry date on the tub? And have you been storing them correctly - NOT in a steamy bathroom or next to the cooker in the kitchen.

I didn't even realise they had an expiry date! I have a lot to learn.

Diabetes presents a HUGE learning curve for all of us - and imo none of us will ever get to the very top of it! That means we always have lots to talk about here, and the stimulation of our little grey cells is intense.

One thing I have found over and over again is that the accepted wisdom on eating is all skewed - and it had brought me close to disaster on several occasions over the course of my adult life.
To lose weight it seems logical to believe all that is set in stone by HCPs, but eating low carb but not going down in calories seems to be a very effective way to lose weight, as the body is perfectly happy to allow weightloss when there is protein and fat coming in regularly - and it burns off fats and releases water too, also shifts fat around, away from the waistline, or in my case, equator.
My waistline expands and shrinks on a weekly basis - sometimes it is a foot smaller than when I was diagnosed, sometimes only nine inches - but I expect it will settle down - I am down two sizes now, from XXL to L - most days, and it hardly feels like even trying to lose weight.
I'd advise easing up on the 'diet' mindset and see what a low carb way of eating will do, then settle on that course for a while.
I was a bit surprised to realize that I had lost over 40lb, which was why my clothes were falling off, even though I was eating fat and protein and putting cream in my coffee.

Yesterday I had a reading of 5.4 mid afternoon and then felt woozy two hours later 4.8 so made sure I had plenty to eat low carb just meat chicken & lamb pieces and salad etc. I think it was around 8pm by the time I ate. I guess the following is the result - My readings today at 1230 lunchtime after hard steps 10 mins exercise and eggs and low carb toast at 10.30 were 12.5!!!!!
That is crazy and very disappointing - is that late meal the problem?
I have tried all sorts of attempts to get any morning readings down and I think the lowest I have ever got is around 8
any ideas please Thank you.

I mentioned this on another thread but what works for me in lowering those morning highs is to have a small snack just before bed time. Just a few slices of meat and cheese. It is worth a try as it helped me a lot.

Thanks for that - I have tried just about every suggestion like that and others from the diabetic nurse etc
I will plod on
all the best

Update....After introducing far more fat into my diet and getting some new test strips my reading this morning is 8.4 :) That is better! I have bought a diabetes diary from Amazon and Monday is my start day for regular testing. I appreciate the help and support that you have given me. :)

Most strips have a code on the tub to indicate how long the strips can be used after opening.

The tub in this image indicates 6 months, so maybe time for a new tub of strips.
