@Jonnyj85jj_ Your profile is showing you as Type 1? Can you just confirm your diabetes type so you get appropriate advice?

Are you a Type 1 (auto immune) or a Type 2 on insulin?

Hi, I had the same issues as you when I was first diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. It sounds like your long acting insulin dose is incorrect. I have been type 1 diabetic for 26 years, and shamefully it took far too many years before a medical professional explained to me how important long acting insulin (commonly Lantus / Levimir) is to good diabetes control. If you get your long acting insulin dose correct, it will keep your background glucose under control, leaving you to just take rapid acting insulin according to what you eat. If the background insulin is not correct you will be chasing high sugars all day (fast acting insulin will never correct and incorrect background insulin dose). Getting the dose right is trial and error, I increased by 2 units per day until I got it right (but this was by agreement with my doctor). Suggest you have a chat with your diabetes specialist.

Are you able to clarify if you are a type 2 on insulin of a type 1 who was initially misdiagnosed as type 2, as that might impact on some of the thoughts you get from the forum and who would be best placed to offer their advice.

For example, I'm assuming you are an insulin dependent type 2 and high levels might be explained by insulin resistance. But beyond that I can't offer much because I haven't experience of insulin resistance personally - you might get something more useful in the type 2 with insulin forum?

Hi and welcome. What is your weight/BMI? This might clarify whether you have some insulin resistance which can be more difficult for insulin to manage well. Yes, getting the Basal right is the first priority and your morning level suggests it may need to be increased? The target should be between 5 - 7 mmol. Are you carb-counting your Rapid (Bolus) insulin dose for each meal? Are you having a sensibly low-carb diet?

T2 insulin and metformin and jardiance sorry if I've post in wrong place just looking a bit off advice on to get lvl down

No problem @Jonnyj85jj_ Threads can be moved :)

Your profile/avatar says you're a Type 1. If you go to your Profile you can change that to,avoid any confusion.

Can you tell us what insulins you take and when? Do you count carbs?
