High sugar tomatoes

My husband bought a lot of small tomatoes on the vine quite cheaply on a trip to the post office.
They were quire ripe, so I have been eating more than usual and did not check my blood glucose until today, having finished off the last of them as they were not going to last another day.
I was at 9.5!!
Not been that high for months.
All my other salad ingredients are the usual ones - so the small tomatoes must be the culprits.
Something to watch out for in future.
 
Yup. I found that sweet tomatoes when they are in season, spike me, and need to be treated with caution.

Something to watch out for in future.
Even low glycemic index foods might cause BG spikes if eaten with excess. You need to mind the glycemic load, too. Being low carb doesn't mean it's diabetes friendly.

Not all small tomatoes are the same! Yesterday I had an egg salad including 3 small tomatoes (approx 45 gm). BG before the meal, 4.9, two hours after 4.7. Admittedly I did have three hours of moderate exercise before the meal which brought my BG down to an unusually low level, and BG mostly rises after eating, but only by around 0.5 mmol.
The stated carbs on the tomato packet is 3.4 gm per 100 gm. I wonder if that is just a general figure for tomatoes of that sort, and how specific to variety are the producers with quotes because I have seen higher figures on other types.
 
Salad vegetables are very difficult to assess carb counting!
I restrict myself to small portions to keep the count down to minimise any glucose tolerance levels.

I suspect there is no requirement to do a spot test on each variety. The value on the packet might be off Google, or maybe a single test years ago.
I usually slosh vinegar onto my salad stuff which is probably why I did not realize they were so sweet.
I had a zero carb evening meal and was at 7mmol/l afterwards, which would have been high, on a normal day - but I expect that I am back to normal now.
