hey all you guys that eat high or higher fat, have this eating style affected your blood pressure or is it unaffected by eating higher fat amounts ?

I ask cause my blood pressure has been raising since I had my diagnosis, well actually along with taking metformin too.

I used to have a blood presure of like 119/70 and now it is in spite of loosing weight and getting fit more like 140/92 most of the time to my surprise actually..would have thought it would become better as I become more fit..

is it the eating style, am I just unlucky or is it the metformin affecting me in a bad way conserning blood pressure.. my kidneys have been affected by metformin as these pill made me have to get up more times at night when I took them also late in the afternoon, now take whole dose in the mornings...
just worrying...:depressed:

Mine has reduced significantly, I was at 160/100 when I started 4 months ago...

Mine was slightly elevated when I was diagnosed, but that was due to ongoing cancer treatment. When the cancer treatment finished it dropped to around 120/70 on resting and has remained stable around or below that level for the past 3 years. My diet does not seem to affect it at all.

thanks for you response, maybe it is the metformin then... I have always had an excellent number like 120/70 all my life even when being lazy and really fat....:( if I have to stop metformin my life gets more difficult as I then must go really low in carbs...

In what way do you feel the Metformin helps your BS levels?

No meds but I take supplements daily,

Vit D3 5000iu
grape seed extract 400mg
CoeQ10 100mg
Magnesium Citrate 200mg

I was on ramipril and amlodipine before I changed diets.

it gets my average blood glucose number down in average by around 1-1,5 mmol every day, which mean I am in the acceptable 5.5 area most days...

Are these your morning fasting numbers or your average daily numbers including post meal?

I'm only asking because Metformin only helps to a limited extent, and many on here that have lowered their HbA1c sufficiently to be taken off Metformin say they haven't noticed any difference. Just a thought.

it is my morning fasting numbers I am talking about, my levels in average has been actually okay , but this next HbA1c can be much higher than the last two of 34 and 36 , as I do eat like twice the amount of foods or even more nowadays when I exercise as much as I do now..

I think I am one of those where metformin do make a fine difference and that my HbA1c would maybe return to the prediabetic levels like 44 or higher if I stop taking them and also do maximum effort to have low numbers...think it will be a struggle for me to eat that little carbs as I would have to in that case..

Mine has reduced quite a lot but I think it is due to weight loss and stopping smoking.

Hi Freema,
Seems odd.
Stress puts mine up at times.
It could be your thyroid adenoma has intermittent hormone output.
Is it possible your potassium has dropped down lower?
regards
Derek

I am lower i my thyroid hormons that I have used to be gone down from 200 microgr till 150microgr. now so I dont think that is too high, but maybe because of a much lower weight now, so maybe have hit a second limit where I have to lower even more... but don´t think so...
I have taken potassium pills lately, and therefore I don´t think it is a too low pottasium, rather it could be too high level so I´ll cut back on that rather. There is a very high level of magnesium and potassium in those combined pills I think it is 850mg magnesium and 250mg potassium and that high level of pottassium is close to the border where it can be too much.. and affect the heart.. I have felt something around my heart in the left side close to middle of my highest rib-border in center front.. the last 3 days, used to feel that when being stressed out mentally, don´t feel that now.. but I did exercise and burn 2300 calories wednesday...:bored::wideyed: maybe hit my upper level for now ...that I can manage .. used to have nervous heart earlier, it feels the same place but don´t feel stressed out at all...

maybe I should also stop ginseng gerimax ...:meh::hungover::shifty:

it was coffee that sent my bp up.

I do drink a lot of diet coke and had two cups of coffee yesterday, don´t usually drink coffee anymore.Don´t really miss it but there is also cafeine in diet coke.... ... think I´ll aks them to check at my heart too... at next meeting at diabetic nurse...I don´t like to go there so am already a bit late for the every 3. month excamination..

My BP has always been around the 105/65 mark and eating a higher level of fat (at least double previous amounts since going LCHF) has not affected it. My intake of carbs is about 50 gm per day and I am varying the fat level to try to keep my weight at about 9 st 10 lbs. I am not taking any meds so perhaps it is the metformin that is upping your BP. Mind you at one time people at work would say I was so laid back, I was almost horizontal!

My blood pressure went up during the time I was taking metformin and statin, dropped back when I stopped. It was only a slight increase, but outside my normal readings.

Thanks Yes medications are not harmless

Well if you live well on 50 grams of carbs I must be able to learn it too ... well that was a relaxed attitude you had there
