Prediabetes Highest readings so far on the LCHF diet

Good morning! I’m so confused as to why this morning my blood sugar reading was 7.7 and yet I’ve been doing the LCHF for 2 weeks and this is the highest so far. No change in my LCHF diet.

I’ve been around 40-70 carbs a day since changing. And I feel ok this morning. I’ve never been over 6.5 before and I was considering a fast today as I have got a high liver reading of 1.33.

I was hoping by fasting I might drain some of the fat from my liver. Is this reading something I should worry about. I am Just confused as to why it should be high after being on this diet. Is it dawn phenomenon but a bit later?! Thanks so much.

Your body is probably taking the opportunity to dump some of the excess glucose that you have been carrying around in the build up to your diagnosis. FBG is one of the last numbers to "normalise" so don't worry its actually quite a good thing.

Good morning:) This is exactly what happened to me, my highest reading (not quite as high yours, but a jump from usual 5.4 to 6.6) was when I'd been fasting (24hrs) and LCHF for about two weeks. I took a second reading mid morning because I was feeling shaky which had never happened before. Got a bit of a shock. That's when I looked on the site and found people suggesting eating a small piece of cheese etc. It worked, my BS came down an hour later. It really was a small piece of cheese, like you'd have with one small round cracker! I've been doing that whenever I feel shaky, which is still happening on longer fasts 16+ hrs
I have no idea what's going on or how this works :D
That said, this is me and not you, I'll be interested to see what happens for you:)

It's just a liverdump, no worries. Like @copilost said, a piece of cheese could tell your liver to knock it off. As to why it's dumping a little more than usual? Could be anything. Maybe you had nightmares, maybe you woke a few times due to the heat so it started dumping early, maybe it's due to the fasting, which wouldn't be a bad thing... You can fast if you like, numbers that go up due to a liverdump aren't as bad as those from eating. (Liver's just dumping what's already there anyways, you're not adding to it). But if you're uncomfy, some cheese or a couple of walnuts or something'd do you fine. Technically it's a break in the fast, but it's something you need to get used to, so ease in.

Thank you. Did you carry on fasting after your little bit of cheese? Since those 2 weeks have your overall sugars come down - so has it had a positive effect on blood sugar in the long run? So many questions! Thank you!!

Thanks. Am slightly annoyed that after reading the diabesity code he didn’t really go into the details like this. So for someone trying to do this fasting thing on their own it’s quite scary. Especially as my doctor is not particularly supportive of a LCHF diet. So I start thinking maybe it won’t work for me. Overall I feel good today and my skin is less dry, my eyes more white so it must be doing something. This is my first 24 hour fast today and I really want to do it. I wonder how long it will take to see better blood sugar?

yes I did carry on fasting, it was only about two hours to go and I was curious to see what happened:)
I'm only about 3 days ahead of you so I don't qualify for "long run" yet;)
I'm seeing more equilibrium, my lowest reading 4.5 was in the first couple of days, the highest, as I said, 2 weeks in +fasting. Overall I'm seeing less up and down action, which means my lower readings are actually higher now than in the first couple of days (no more 4.5 :(). My average meter reading for my total 19 days is 5.4. My HbA1c was 6.6% so I'd say that's a reasonable improvement.:D

I should mention I'm lower than this, I'm fairly confident it's under 20 per day. All carbs except vegetables and nuts banished.
This wasn't an aim as such, I just felt so much better after the first 24hrs of (very) LCHF I just kept going.

I haven't settled on a longer term plan yet, I've plenty of weight to lose so I don't worry about needing more calories to make up for absent carbs:)

Don't worry if your fasting doesn't bring you the desired results - although my numbers aren't perfect, I just eat low carb twice a day and my liver has shrunk and softened so I can bend over to reach the bottom shelf or pick up things from the floor without my ribs being pushed out or seeing stars.

I see where you're coming from. I didn't have support either. Not many of us do, truth be told. All specialists and dieticians declared me insane or anorexic, my GP figured we'd see where it'd go by testing a lot, and go from there. She admitted she didn't know much of anything about diabetes, and I'm the only one in the practice who eats the way I do (as people are usually sent to the dieticians I had... And they're not LCHF/keto supporters). That makes me the only person in the practice who had full blown diabetes with complications, and got into remission, med- and complication-free. I'm also the person who was told by the specialist there was nothing I could do about my fatty liver disease. Just pray it wouldn't turn to cirrhosis. Fatty liver's gone now, on LCHF/Keto. While the bloke was quite adamant I was doomed. But then, he believed my liver was one big cancerous mass and I was going to be dead soon, and was wrong about that too. So, *shrug*. Eat to your meter, fast if you want and let your liver just empty itself a bit of the reserves it has if you're comfortable with that. And the most important rule of fasting: If you start to feel uncomfortable, if you feel like you need to eat, break your fast. Don't stick with a certain set of hours or days. Your body'll let you know when it's been enough. Listen to it.

There are a number of reasons why bg readings can be elevated which have nothing to do with diet/ fasting.

A good nights sleep can lower your bg so the opposite is also true.
It's been hot the last few nights, which can raises bg levels.
Even watching a scary movie can raise your bg. :mask:

Not every thing comes down to food and some times your levels will throw up an unusual reading, if it doesn't persist, it's not something to worry about, because worrying can raise your bg too. ;)
