Holiday in the UK - food!

well if you are in or around London there is the walkie talkie building as it is like that image. It's called the Sky garden and is free of charge https://skygarden.london/what-is-sky-garden/
I've not been myself but it looks beautiful. One day I will go and see it for myself.
Also visit the science museum I've been to about 4 museums in London all fasincating. All free of charge. There is 26 free museums in London all worth visiting. Obviously you need a day to get around and see everything in one of them.
Thank you, the sky garden looks amazing and I'm sure I'd have loved the science museum, just the kind of thing I enjoy!
But my holiday is over, I spent an amazing 8 days in the UK. :)

I did visit London (rode cable cars, saw the meridian and visited lots of squirrels and a fox in Greenwich park) but one day was enough.
While there are lots of things I'd love to see in London, I really don't do well in big cities with all the people and noise.
 
@Antje77 did you try the pickled eggs? What did you think?
I bought 2 pots to try back home, first pot was finished in 3 days! :joyful:
Saving the second pot a bit longer before opening.

Was thinking of boiling a couple of eggs and just putting them in the jar to reuse the vinegar or whatever it is they were pickled in. Makes sense or will I be poisoning myself?

I don’t think that would work very well, I’ve found you a very easy recipe to try

The eggs are put into the vinegar with shells on and they dissolve, neutralising the acid, so you need to use new vinegar every time to get the shells off.

But this shounds like the solution for that issue:

There is recipes where you can pickle with the shells on but the vinegar will not dissolve the shells, you still have to peel them in the end. (My auntie used to do them with the shells on it makes a milder egg and the “brine” has to be different) her and my mam used to argue which way was best every Christmas. My mams family used to pickle all sorts of stuff for Christmas. If you want a chip shop style egg use malt vinegar

A local tradition at Easter in our pubs is an egg dump, gets very serious with massive bets on the winning egg. Hard boiled eggs boiled with onion skins then you hit each other egg the one that cracks is out and the winner goes on to the next round. My grandad used to keep an old laying hen called Etty said her eggs were like bullets, he used to boil the eggs in vinegar to make the shells tougher

I have a couple of hens who would be good competitors!
I also have some hens whose eggs break if you do so much as point at them. Perfectly edible (if you manage not to squeeze them before reaching the pan and making a mess) but they tend to go off much quicker than the bullet type eggs from the other chickens.

I used to keep quail and their eggs are very good, but rather tiny, so I used to put them into vinegar to remove the shells after boiling them and it was a lot easier than shelling them individually.
I did not actually pickle them, just left them long enough for the shells to dissolve.

Have you tried the trick of dousing the boiled eggs under very cold water immediately after taking them off the boil? That makes them much easier to peel.

Especially if you crack them first, once cooled tap them and give them a little roll to break the shell then put them back in the cold water for a while, the water gets under the shell membrane and the shells should fall off easily
 
Well, I hope your holiday went well. We were holidaying in Northumberland and North Yorkshire. Eating out as a low carber was difficult and trying. There didn’t seem to be any salad options. I survived! I tried to balance out with lower carb choices for breakfast and lunch‍♀️
 
Hmm I’m not really bothered about meat, fibre ! water all I know is haggis is braw and I like to use the age old theory that if it takes good it must be bad for you hmm bring it on lol
