Hi
I'm starting a new thread because I'd really like some solid stories about what to expect when my pancreas packs in. @therower light-heartedly suggests I'll know when it's dead as my feet will be covered in hair and I've just checked and they're not!
I know from @Mel dCP yours just went.
What about anyone else? How do you know? What happens?
I don't tolerate ambiguity and so not knowing scares the sh%%%%t out of me

Over 5 or 6 years, my insulin requirements slowly increased.
I *think* my honeymoon period ended when my insulin requirements stayed the same for more than a year.

There was no big bang.
There was no sudden rise.
I think my Islets of Langerhan just slowly faded away until they were no more.

Hi @SueJB my story is similar to Helens there was no overnight boom moment, mine lasted around a year it was very gradual and I just saw a steady rise in BG levels which I then had to adjust insulin ratios for, so nothing major to be concerned about just watch out for changes in your meter and then adjust accordingly with your insulin requirements, it was noticing that control was less erratic and I was seeing regular patterns that I found a huge positive.

@SueJB . Hopefully people will give their input into this thread and ally any fears you may have.
For me after I guess 6 to 9 months after diagnosis I found that my twice daily injections of mixtard insulin ( no carb counting for me back in the day ) didn’t keep sending me hypo totally unexpectedly. After a year I then started to need more insulin daily to keep me in range albeit I had no change to anything in my life.

@therower I understand now why they say to do daily feet inspections. I'll keep looking for the hairs. I'm a year in, no hairs and have actually reduced my basal

@SueJB . You’ll be just fine.
Positivity is the key to living with diabetes, even when things go off track if you can find a positive slant to put on it you will be okay.

My honeymoon period has lasted a good few years during which I've had to gradually increase my Basal and my Bolus ratio. I also get larger swings as my body no longer regulates my own diminishing insulin production. When all this stops changing I'll know my beta cells are dead!
