Hi,

Unfortunatly we can't advise on your insulin dosage. We can help once you've established what has been advised by your doctor.

Is there any way you can contact your HCP for a "refresher" on what was recomended?

It's best if you can record as much data as you can, for as many days as you can, to give to your diabetes nurse at your clinic. DAFNE suggests recording your BS by finger prick, carb count and insulin dosing for waking, before breakfast, before lunch, before dinner, and bedtime. This will allow them to help suggest changes. They will also help you with your carb ratios, which may be different for each meal, depending on how resistant you are to insulin at different times of the day - something they will advise you on.

Good luck.

Your ratios are personalised for you and it is calculated by your medical team and so is your long acting insulin. It’s best to leave it to the professionals who have been doing it for years, I don’t advise just guessing the amount of insulin you need, that is quite dangerous to be honest.

Did your honeymoon end overnight? It should have been a gradual increase in insulin dosage.
Most people start on 1 unit of insulin for 10g of carbohydrates, but it varies from person to person and between different times of the day. 1 unit of insulin lowers BG around 50mg/dl but again everyone is different. In terms of long acting I believe it is generally 0.5 units/kg but I’m not entirely sure, I’m not a diabetes specialist. People also have different residual amounts of insulin production and different amounts of glucose production from liver so we cannot really say.

You really cannot ask us because everyone’s body is different. What could work for me could kill you and what could work for you could kill me. Best to ring your diabetes specialist nurse
