Id say watch the nuts - some are quite high carb while others arent, also v easy to eat a shedload of calories from a relatively small amount of nuts

May I ask how much weight we are talking?

Hi,
Please don't give up, I'd hate you to get diabetic complications. Most packets have the carb content on, it gets easier really.
Are you able to exercise? That will help you lose weight.
I fill up on lots of water.
You will learn how to control your blood sugars, test before meals and two hours afterwards. It will tell you what foods are spiking your blood sugars.
Good luck and don't panic.

I just feel like forgetting the lot

That would be counter productive and make matters even worse.

I have been eating sausage

Could be a problem, you need to check the carb content because of the "fillers" that they use and that depends on the brand. Nuts are 600 calories and 21 gms of carb per 100gms. Use sparingly.

I dont know what to eat

Lots of vegetables and the ones that grow above ground. Lower carbs and lower GI (so absorbed slower as well).

I don't understand how to count carbs

Fortunately it's not rocket science. Weigh what you eat, google the carb content, simple multiplication and there's your carbs. Yes it's a pain in the butt, but after a while you will get familiar with what the carbs are in what you eat.

put on weight

Happens to me also, in fact in the last 3 weeks I've gained 4 kgs and no idea why because I eat a lot less than my Resting Metabolic Rate (if I was unable to move), never mind my Basic Metabolic Rate (takes into account different levels of exercise).

Also, don't forget that protein can be converted to glucose (or the equivalent) and it has what's affected my BG over the last 18 months. I consume < 50gms of carb per day and it worked fine for 4 years, then something changed and my BG was all over the place. I've put it down to protein.

My advice would be to stop snacking between meals. Every time you eat, you cause both an insulin and a gluose rise and they can take a couple of hours (or even longer) to return to baseline. The less time you have with higher circulating levels of both, the more likely you are to switch to fat burning.

To find out what cause the high glucose levels, start with monitoring pre/post meal glucose readings.

The biggest favour you can do for yourself is to go Low Carb.
The second biggest, and possibly the most effective, is never to buy any processed food again. Foods listed as "healthy" often have all the fat removed and replaced with sugar, the one thing guaranteed to mess up Diabetics.
Bin all the tinned and processed garbage, then cook from scratch. I did it 20 months ago with my non-diabetic wife. She lost 37 lbs (17 kilos) and I (T2 Insulin Dependent) lost 75 lbs (34 kilos).
We love our meats, cheeses, fish and green veg and salads but have very strict limits on bread and no pasta, white rice, bulky potatoes etc.
We are also a lot fitter, have taken up jogging at 59 in my case and 52 in the wife's case.
We are also, a lot better at cooking than we have ever been and look forward to preparing meals in a variety of ways.
Life is fun again, so do not give up.
2 years back, I hated my Diabetes and hated life, now I love it. Still don't like the injections (have gone from 90 units of Insulin a day to 30 or below) but they are a better option than looking out at the World from the inside of a silk lined box!
Look after yourself and be healthy!

It's probably the nuts. I munched on them, really slowed down my progress... And upped my sugars. Check your sausages for fillers to be on the safe side, you want high meat content in those. But yeah... Most likely, the nuts.

I don't lose on nuts or cheese.

I would agree with others, nuts and dairy for me are things that interfere with my weight, I do eat them occasionally but as part of a meal in small quantities and I avoid snacking - don't give up, it's very early days and it's a lifestyle change not a quick fix, just a little bit of tweaking, keeping a record of everything you eat (I use myfitnesspal) and testing, testing, tresting to see what you personally can tolerate is the best thing you can do for yourself.

It will at times feel like a bit of a chore and time consuming but after a few weeks it will become routine and second nature and much easier :)
