Diabetes sucks. I dont know who every one does it. I know I'm not the only one with problems. But there's no one near me who I can talk to who does have the same problems. I just want to give up on it. How do you keep your blood sugars under control. Checking everywhere you go? adding carbs? Finding out how many you ate? Just keeping track in general? I can't do it. Oh but it's my life... Well screw that they don't understand.

Hi,and Welcome to our Group
im a type 2 , so cant help much on Carb counting for type 1, but someone will answer you.
In Life you are often dealt things that you don't want, and hope they will go away.
Regrettably it is in your case type 1, in my case type 2.
Im not really in a great rush to die, so what is the point in getting very upset, it really is not going to get you anywhere.
Try and look at Diabetes as a challenge and not a burden. In that way, each time you get a good result, get control etc, it is an achievement.
Please ask any questions you want, and someone will help
Good Luck
;)

Hey , I'm pretty much the same age as you .
I fount it very very hard to control when I was in my teens and going through puberty . But now I'm that tiny bit older it seems a bit easier to manage .
How long have you been diagnosed for . It is really hard when you have people that do not understand you , maybe you will get some relief by talking to people on here , I do not know any type 1 diabetics but have a fantastic support of family behind me which makes all the difference .
It is a difficult question on how do people do it . But if we didn't do it we would become very ill , so in a harsh way we haven't got a choice.
There's two ways to look at this . Let it get you down and be a negative , or turn it around into a postive , like as said above , focus on the good readings when you get a good reading think I done that I got that there , don't always look at the negative .
I really can understand how your feeling about it all , as it is a massive thing to deal with but I look at it like I will not let my diabetes win . I will not let it get me down , we can not change having diabetes nore will it go away , so let's beat , work with it not against it .
It's easier said than done , but I want to be my healthiest so I do everything to make it work . Learn as much as you can about managing it and how to tweak and change , makes all the difference .
I haven't got great advice to give , just thought I'd give you the way I look at my diabetes .
I hope you start feeling better .

Wise words from Randburg there. Have you attended a DAFNE course ? If not, try and get on one. In short, there's no easy answer and it takes work but the more you do it, the easier it gets. Put the groundwork in at the beginning. Test lots, record everything. Get your basal insulin right. Try to work out your insulin to carb ratio. Once these basic things are done ( and I don't pretend they're easy ! ) the counting of carbs is quite straightforward. There are books and apps that can assist. If there are any specific questions you have, please ask.

hi, welcome :)

its a case of having to I'm afraid, we get one life and yours has been blighted by diabetes, others cancer others whatever and some lucky buggers live charmed lives, i think what your basically saying is "its not fair" and you are so right! and its bloody hard! but these are the cards you've been dealt, you just have to play your hand the best way you can, you have to be grateful for the things that are good in your life, and suck it up when it comes to the bad things, the people who handle it well are not special, they haven't been born with a gift, they just came to terms with it, and get on with it, you really have no choice but to try hard and succeed, or wish you had

sorry this is useless and unhelpful but i wish you all the best and hope you get some useful tips from the site

Hi and welcome.

You have a choice really. You can ignore it and it will bite you hard with unpleasant complications or you do the best you can to control it. It is not a contagious or terminal disease so the solution is in your hands.

Reading your post, I do not know how long you have been diagnosed but would urge you to read the following articles. It could be that you are also suffering from depression.,

The Diabetes Rollercoaster.

The Five Stages of Grief

And if you have been diagnosed for a few years then this will help too.

Diabetes Burnout.

There are plenty of people who will admit that their diagnosis had them reeling and they took a long time to come to terms with it but there are also lots of positive people on the forum who will help you.

Keep in touch, rant away and ask as many questions as you need to.

I agree with everyone who has posted before. We are all given a life and most of us it's not the one we'd choose but we have to make the most of it . We all suffer from diabetes on this forum so you are not alone. Try and get on the Daphne course I am sure it will help. Best wishes

you look quite young [not that young :)], so unfortunately life at that age is already quite busy with lots of other things, so diabetes can often take a back seat.....

you will realize that you can only do your best and that over the years of your life you will have good spells and bad spells, you wont get it perfect. And why should you be consumed by trying to get it perfect all your days to then realize you have missed out on life.......

a difficult balance for sure.........

as you clock up the years as a diabetic it WILL become normality, any diabetic will tell you. You will learn how your body works and what things work well and what things don't...

I am just assuming your recently diagnosed but if you are your in a good position in today's world as there are many resources out there that can help you, like DAFNE as others have mentioned, and in my personal opinion, forums like these, where other diabetics can help and share from their experiences... and listen to the rants/moans whenever they are required....

how long have you been diagnosed?

what insulin regime are you on?

are there any specific issues you need help with?

I know the advice above is logical, but I think you make a good point. As an oldie here I read the introductions of the newbies, and think to myself "how did diabetes become so hard?". It's a balance of course, and the progress towards better health has come at a price.

When I was diagnosed my daily routine did not drag me down. I travelled lightly, literally. I left the house with no syringes (twice daily injections so no need) no testing equipment (didn't exist, so no need). Since no blood testing there was no way I could beat myself up with a "bad" result. And since here was no internet, I wouldn't have been able to compare my results with anyone else's, and beat myself up over falling short. Back then we muddled along, and did our best with what we had (nothing, in todays terms).

So please try to be less hard on yourself. Just don't pretend your diabetes doesn't exist
