How do I stop this bender!

I got sick with noro just before Christmas. I didn't eat anything much at all for a few days and ever since I've been on a total self destructive sugar binge! I know it's stupid, I'm headachey and my sleep is all over the place, but I just can't stop. I start the day with the best intentions but by mid afternoon I've lost the plot.
How do I fix this?
Failing any useful ideas could you all just call me stupid repeatedly so I can read this back to myself before every meal? :(

We're all human and have been there. It's easy to feel sorry for yourself after being ill, and think that you deserve a treat... but this isn't a treat for you and you know it.
How about planning a really nice low carb meal that needs some thought and preparation and seeing that as your treat. You could even make a low carb dessert too.. egg custard is one of my faves.. seems like a treat but it's well within limits.
A brisk walk or your favourite exercise might help too ?
You need to think.. so OK I messed up.. but tomorrow is another day ( as Scarlett said in the movie)

I'm trying. It just all goes south by lunchtime! :(
I stopped testing a while back because I was getting along really well. Tomorrow I'm going to start again. I guess that'll help. I have the willpower of a dead frog!

I've never been able to get a dead frog to do anything I want they are really stubborn.

I have been of the wagon a little my self of late but thankfully the Cadbury's Roses have all gone now.

As has been said start testing again and find out where you are then go on from there. And starting a food log may help you keep track of exactly what you are eating.

Start the day with a HUGE delicious, satisfying, low carb breakfast. You will probably forget about food for hours, then get hungry gently and slowly, rather than tipping into that mad carb craving.
- at which point you pull out your nice filling low carb lunch, and eat again.

The trick (in my experience) is to eat regularly and satisfyingly. Highish protein and fat, low carb, for several days. Forget about dieting. Forget about calories. Eat enough fat to feel full. You are only doing this for long enough to get the carb cravings out of your system (3-5 days, in my experience), at that point you can switch to your normal non-bingeing eating pattern.

Hope that helps.

It's that unfortunate time of year where a lot of us will typically eat a lot more than normal over the festives, and sometimes continue into the start of the year with the "January blues". The aforementioned, coupled with your recent virus just makes things even tougher than usual.

Best way, and I'm not scaremongering here... but just think of the negative health impacts that high BG levels are having on your body. It's how I keep myself on track as best I can.

The key is not to be too hard on yourself as perfect control is impossible. However, be stern when it comes to the reality of the damage than can be done through neglect of proper diet, exercise, etc.

Good luck, you'll be fine:)

I second the idea of getting a big yummy breakfast down your neck! Bacon, eggs, good quality sausage, black pudding. Any (or all!) of those would be a great start to the day and you'll hopefully find that you're just not hungry until lunchtime.

At the moment I like to melt a slice of cheese over a few bacon rashers plus a dollop of mayo on the side. I have that at about 7:15am and I'm good until well past midday. If I don't eat something substantial then I find myself hunting for snacks.

Another good bacon/egg inspired breakfast idea: line a ramekin with streaky bacon, crack and egg in it, salt and pepper with grated cheese on top, baked in the oven. Plenty fat, plenty protein, trace carbs:)

I think there are plenty of us, I am struggling to get back to my healthier options, it did amaze me just how quickly the carbs can really take hold of you having taken me months to really get them under control just a few days with a little each day and all I want to eat is carbs..............

Lunchtime is the hardest meal of the day for me being at work with only salad as my reasonable option - so I can appreciate the falling by the way side by lunchtime - for myself as I eat Greek Yogurt for breakfast is to have it for lunch as well twice a week, then salad for the other days - I think other people have great ideas so do plan you day food wise so you know what you are going to have - makes it easier to stick with. Also if you have a testing kit then do test - reality can really help.

One of my go to treats and this may sound odd but works for me - to go and buy a cream filled chocolate eclair - I peel off the so called chocolate (sugar paste) topping and eat the eclair - my body can cope with that and I feel like I have had a treat.

I hope you get things back on track really soon as I hope for myself too.

There's some really good suggestions here, which I will be trying out as I've been a bit off the wagon recently - celebrating my diabetes nurse praising me for the downward trends in everything recently. Now I know that's really stupid!
I'm definitely going to go for a good breakfast, and upping the fats a tad (ignoring said nurse in the process, who rates low carb but not high fat).
I'm also going to splash out on some lovely stuff for evening meals, that I know I will look forward to - roast pork and veggies, maybe see if anyone is selling off Christmas gammon joints to do with carrots and onion, some whole bream. Mmm - they should take my mind off pies and pasta.

That sounds like a fantastic idea. I could put some melted 85% chocolate on once I've taken the 'artificial' chocolate off. I'll keep an eye on BGs after eating, of course. Fingers crossed ;)
Thanks very much for the idea :)

Have to say I've found cheese my go to when I have the munchies late at night - A couple of slices of nice red Leicester fills me up. Either that or a cup of coffee with single cream (its such a revelation being able to have that after all the years of the fat malarkey!). Oat cakes are good if you really need some carbs - I get ones that are 4.3g a cake, a bit of butter and a bit of cheese on top. Nice.

I have to be a bit careful with cheese as it can give me migraine - so I have it with salad at lunchtime but I do not eat it generally as a snack - but we are all different so it might be a good option for other's.
