How far is LADA genetic?

My mum and at least three of her siblings had late onset autoimmune diabetes. Back then they were told it was ‘type one and a half’. I have now been diagnosed with pre-diabetes and even after substantial weight loss (bmi now 26) and five months of a low carb diet, my fasting blood glucose is around 7. My latest HbA1c was 41. I’m wondering whether I should push my GP for a test for GAD antibodies and c-peptides on the basis of family history. Does anyone know whether there is a genetic component to LADA?

Welcome @geekesse
I think it's fairly well-known that having family members with any form of diabetes means that your chances of developing diabetes will be higher.
I doubt that your GP will be willing to fund the tests you want on the strength of a HbA1c of 41. But who knows, there is no harm in asking, they might say yes.
