I was diagnosed with Type 2. Diabetes 2014 and have been on insulin since January 2016. Since then my blood sugars have been stable and I am very careful about how many carbs I eat.however for some reason my levels have been very high by my standards very high. 16.3 6pm today before evening meal, 9.3 before lunch, 8.7 fasting this morning, 13.0 yesterday before bed, 10.7 before evening meal, 7.6 before lunch (slightly above normal), 4.9 yesterday before breakfast (around normal)

I am sorry -this is American measurements and I do not know how to convert it to British so not at all helpful.

Hi gillytee

Are you confident about altering your insulin to match your carb intake? And making correction doses?
If not, then I suggest you contact your health team and ask for guidance, since those levels are higher than they should be.

What levels do you usually run at?

Any chance you have had an infection? Sometimes viruses and bugs play merry hell with our levels. Some posters report that the first sign they have of an incoming bout of cold or flu is when their blood glucose bumps up out of their normal range.
Medication can do it too, such as steroids. And then there is stress, and sleeplessness, and hidden carbs in food.

I would start with a call to your surgery to ask for advice on adjusting your insulin to cope with these new higher levels.

Hope that helps!

Hi. Are you on the Basal Bolus regime? If not ask to be moved to it. Once you get the balance right together with low-carbing and carb-counting you will have better control. BTW if you are slim you may be T1 and not T2.

That is really helpful thank you so much. Actually it looks as though it probably was caused by stress as my husband has just been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer and he is my carer. As well as being insulin controlled diabetic I am a wheelchair user and have 10 other medically diagnosed conditions. Life is not always easy !!!

Oh, I am very sorry to hear about your husband's cancer! That will be a terrible blow, shocking and distressing, and yes, I am sure the stress must be playing havoc with your blood glucose.

Please, take tremendous care of yourselves - and please let us know how you get on?

Best wishes to you both!
