Morning
I don't seem to be able to bring down my overnight fasting levels. I can go to bed on a 5.9 and wake up on an 8.4.
My overall control is good h1 was 6.4 I expect it to be lower as have been stricterror with my diet. 1 am on 2g metformin. Discussed using inslutard overnight with the doctor he said I could but it's not that much of an issue as my overall is good ?
As I lose weight will they come down by themselves or do you think a dose of inslutard will help ?
Thank you

Hi. It may be that you are having dawn phenomenon...

Dawn Phenomenon (Liver Dump) Dawn phenomenon occurs in the morning. Dawn phenomenon is the term given to an increase in blood sugar in the morning caused by the body's release of certain hormones. It is a relatively common phenomenon amongst diabetics.

I'm type one but found this blog helpful on this subject.

Hope this is helpful.

I wouldn't overly concern yourself about fasting levels.
I would be more concerned about your two hour readings. Don't forget to test before meals.
As these will give you an idea of what foods to avoid.

Dawn phenomenon is natural and some diabetics have done lots of things to try and get it down, some successfully, some not!

Yes your Fasting reading is just one moment in time during a day.

Your pre and post meal readings are as important, if not more so, and when you get those under control your fasting levels will usually start to improve.

It takes time, so don't get discouraged, it is a marathon unfortunately.

I'd agree - I consider my pre and post meal levels most important and I can do a lot to control these. Fasting levels are just one spot check out of a number done during the course of the day, the one that you have least control over, and usually the last one to come down.

I find though that on my LCHF diet, if my body has enough fat available overnight, my liver can often decide its helping hand isn't required next morning.

Hi all,
Just had my diabetes review my last HbA1c Nov 15 was 55 (7.2) and i'm now 45 (6.3) Cholesterol is 4.1 so pleased with that.
I have decided against inslutard and continue with my diet and metformin twice a day and review in 3 month.
Ive been low carbing for 6 weeks and lost 15lbs, still a long way to go yet but feeling confident and positive.
Thank you all

It took about 6 months of very low carbing for my morning readings to come down.. even now I still can get 6+ (and do most days) but am now starting to see some 5's so am very pleased.
