Hi all....again lol
I have stopped meds at moment as i felt like poo and have had a queasy and crampy stomach for 4.5 weeks which is about the time i started gliclacide.

I just wondered how long it takes to get out of system as i am still getting low readings without the medication 3 days in.

One thing to be careful of if you are doing this without any medical input, is that stopping gliclazide suddenly can cause a rebound high which can be dangerous - Gliclazide is a drug where the dose is slowly increased (titrated ) in order to find the correct level and needs to be titrated down when stopping the drug.

Gliclazide's half life is 12 hours.

I recently stopped taking gliclazide and I noticed that if I went 6 hours w/o eating, my blood sugar will be in the mid 4's and no longer hypo. I haven't noticed any other differences in my blood sugars, but I also didn't find gliclazidr effective in reducing blood sugar to begin with. I was on the max dosage and still had high blood sugars (teens to 20s).

I never had any gastro issues with gliclazide, but my urine would smell like sulfur if I didn't drink enough water.

Talk to your medical team about discontinuing the meds. My doctors said I could half or discontinue completely when I started basal insulin. They never mentioned anything about needing to wean off or anything, but I don't know your medical history.

I stopped my gliclazide last month and my BG readings have shot up. I'm hoping its a 'rebound high' and starts to level off and perhaps fall in a week or so. My gliclazide was first reduced by 50% and I managed to keep BG within limits although there was an initial rise.

Interesting
My blood would only shoot up after a high carb/sugary meal.
I have got a problem with guts and i have had shakes and anxiety attack which i have NEVER had.
I started taking them beginning of jan and been ill ever since
My bloods would drop with no trouble when on it and if i had a spike i would know its because of that bowel of porridge and honey lol
I was sapose to b on 4 glic and 1 metformin slow release but my bloods would plummet on 2 glic
