How much 10g carb raises sugar?

This question has come about from a previous question but it made me think about it a bit more.
I hear everyone say that anything under 10g carb you don't need to bolus for but I find the complete opposite
10g carb for me raises my levels by about 3mmol so I can't ever snack and slight miscalculations in amount of insulin can leave me high.
Is this normal?

this is actually what bothers me too but I still no one could tell me how much each gram of carbohydrate increases my glucose in the blood

I would need to bolus for 10g of carbs otherwise I'd be high pre-prandial, any type of snack seems to raise my levels no matter what I eat so that is why I rarely snack, only time being when bg levels are running low close to hypo territory.

There is no one answer to "how much 10g carbs will raise BG levels". Some can get away with no insulin and minimal rise whilst others, as we've read, cannot. The simple answer is to know how much 10g of carbs affects you, not others.

Thanks noblehead. So it's not just me!

Simple - if you start off with say 4.5 mmol/l and have a snack that raises your BG by say 3 mmol/l, then you'll end up with 7.5 mmol'l, which is below the usual target of < 7.8mmol'l I.e. not taking any insulin was the correct dose.

It's not "everyone" who says not to dose below 10 gch. It's DAFNE. Personally I think it's a dubious suggestion. It would not work for me.

Also, DAFNE do not say that 10g of carbs won't raise BG levels. They suggest don't bother to inject for less than 15g as you can take them into account at your next main meal. This makes life a little easier for those who snack regularly but again, it's not gospel, do what suits :-)

To see what it raises you by.. Eat 10g carb.....no bolus.. Me peesonally, I would check every hour for 5 hours as then if my basal ratings are right then after my 2-3 hour rise I should see my levels stay there.
Nothing time is wasted when checking things on your own body... You are an individual...and can't go on what others experience.
