I do not have diabetes
and if ur lo carb lo fat why u eating toast n cheese,,,,cheese isnt lo fat,,toast isnt lo carb
Oh, ok. That is what I liked to do and did over the years, but I decided to change a few things around me.... Also, note, my sentence started with 'I feel...', yes it is my feeling which is different from what I [have to] do currently to maintain a fit body.

currently i have one cheat day per week, on that day I try cheddar cheese with salad, but not toast anymore. For me, its very difficult to manage 18% of body fat, but trying very hard. It is like my body wants to go back to obese state, as it was in the past.

I am passing this on to you because it definitely worked for me today, and we all could probably use more calm in our lives.
Some doctor on TV this morning said the way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started.
So I looked around my house to see things I'd started and hadn't finished -
I have managed to finish off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of Chardonnay, a bodle of Baileys, a butle of wum, a pockage of Prungles, tha mainder of bot Prozic and Valiuminun scriptins, the res of the chesescke an a box a chocletz. Yu haf no idr how bludy fablus I feel rite now. Plaese sned dhis orn to dem yu fee ar in ned ov iennr pisss.. An telum, u blody luvum.!!

When first diagnosed about 6 mths ago I knew booze was a big factor as to where I was, and suspect I had T2 long before diagnosis. Stopped booze, dropped weight and got under a reasonable control. Then read (on here I think) a Glass of Red a day was ok, somehow over the last month that has increased to two or three glasses of red a day, but no munchies.

Reading these posts I now feel like an "Alchy" . Thanks ! Lesson learned back to portion control for me from today.......I.e. 1 Glass. I normally drink half way then add sparkling water or soda water

Not a big drinker, me, as a rule, but a big socialiser, so a big social session can render a good drinking session too. With friends over four or five hours I can drink a bottle of sparkling, half a bottle over two to three hours, no probs, and very enjoyable it is too. Making sure to eat is advised, and I do that for sure. And a couple of times during the week I would share a bottle over a dinner with my adult daughter.

So two bottles of dry white sparkling wine a week.

When I am not socialising, I have about three small glasses of red wine a week, with dinner.

I have drunk and metered, it doesn't seem to affect my BG levels. Not at all! I was very pleasantly surprised. But it makes sense if you think about what alcohol is. I have had to explain more than once to drinking pals, and even bartenders, who know I am a T2Diabetic, that the fermentation process uses up the huge percentage of sugar in an alcoholic or fermented drink. They seemed disappointed! o_O

Since being diagnosed I have changed what I drink - hugely. But I have not changed alcohol being a part of my life. I did used to have a couple of half pints during an evening at the bar with my friends and partner. But now am low-carb, and beer, sadly, is 'liquid bread' - so they say anyway. Drinking now is more expensive! And higher in alcohol levels, too, bizarrely. But way lower in sugar and carbs.

And I was a cocktail fan, before diagnosis. (Hmmm. Yes. I get it - don't worry!) I tried drinking what the paleo folk call 'a NorCal margarita', as a post-diagnosis substitute - which is a shot of tequila, fresh lime juice, and unsweetened soda. This drink truly depresses me though. (Don't tell Robb Wolf!) Because I was a HUGE margarita fan before diagnosis - the sweet Texan kind. Oh - yum. A NorCal margarita is but a dim, bitter, distant memory of the lovely sweet one of yesteryear - so better, in my book, to avoid such a sad rendition of a truly marvellous drink. And I drink a good dry (and reasonably priced) sparkling wine instead. One thanks heaven for large mercies.
I still drink lager now and again. But I feel the affects now and think why bother. For everyone saying their BG levels are fine you are all forgetting that while you have alcohol in your system your liver is busy processing this before dealing with your BG levels, After it has sorted out the alcohol it then has to deal with the sugar. So your levels may be low 2 or 3 hours after drinking, but it will hit you in the end.

I very rarely drink alcohol, mainly because of my working hours (I work until 11pm each night).

However, as it was a holiday yesterday I treated myself to a cider. Not sure it was a good move though. My BM on going to bed was 9.2! It was still 7.2 this morning. :( A swift 2km walk sorted that out and brought me down to 5.7 though. :)

Hmm. This is an interesting one. I have found stress, absolutely, to be the biggest 'it will hit you in the end', thing when it comes to raised BG levels. Not fermented fruit. The stress thing is such a biggie I joke with friends and loved ones if they get suitably ****** off with me how they can kill me is to stress me out. (It's all about the cortisol and the flight and fright mechanism pumping out sugar into the blood to ready you for running from tigers and your mother in law.) And drinking socially really helps with lowering my stress and generally enjoying my life (as alcohol does generally for we humans).

But there is a really simple way to check out the effect of alcohol on your BG levels - drink and meter! Check your levels over time. Check them on a few drinking occasions, and the days following - and then you will know how it affects you personally.

Drinking moderately for your body type and food intake (ie drinking with food), can have a positive effect on your feelings of wellbeing, with a minimum effect on your liver. But 'drink and meter' to check it out!

Does any one drink dry white wine?? is it the same carb content as red? just can't drink red wine looks so nice as well.

yeah, for me it's sparkling whites. The key is in the dryness, as you are noting.

My table says a dry white standard drink (120mls) has 1.0 gram of carbs in it. A sparkling has 1.5 g. Ditto white or red.

Oh happy day - just reading this post I did not know red wine can lower blood sugar (though know it allegedly has other health benefits) - really?? thanks Desidiabulum. :joyful:

I love a glass of wine, preferably white, but always riddled with guilt when I do. Tend to stick to spirits with sugar free mixers, but like others on here, there is only so much diet coke or slimline tonic you can drink. The latter has that yuck sweetener aspartame taste

Didn't plan for this - can the guilt! The guilt will probably hurt you more than the glass of wine. :) I would also add - so will the lab and factory-made sweeteners! (Don't trust me - check out the latest research on the affect of chemical sweeteners on everyone, but diabetics in particular.)
