Depends on your goals and inclination. The body uses energy in the following order:
- Alcohol
- Exogenous Ketones
- Carbs
- Protein
- Fat
So the more Alcohol, the longer it takes to release fat for energy use.
If you have a lot of fat to shift, insulin resistance etc, how quickly do you want to resolve this. If you are really disciplined you might be able to get away with a small amount (then what is small?).
Answering my own questions, I haven't had an alcoholic drink in around 2.5 years. I bought some tequila at Christmas to have maybe half an inch, then just did not want it, so remains unopened. The ketogenic lifestyle is just that, if having a small amount of alcohol keeps you mostly on track and you are making progress then the big picture is the most important; I for example eat nuts, even though I know I could achieve my goals quicker without them.
