Just out of interest I have been taking Lantus for 3 years and Novarapid for 1. It was only a short while ago I realised that 1 unit of insulin is actually 3 units on the pen. Therefore when I inject 60.units of lantus that is only 20 units of insulin.
I just wonder how many people realise this and whether this ever causes any problems. Certainly it was never pointed out to me when I started injecting. :!:
Hi dcoppard,
Please could you clear up the confusion that this statement has caused ... "It was only a short while ago I realised that 1 unit of insulin is actually 3 units on the pen."
Who told you this ... surely not your HCP?

Sorry for the delay in replying as I have been away for a few days. I'm also sorry if I am confusing people which was never my intention.
I have been a type 2 for almost 20 years so I hope one day I'll get it right.
My confusion is that I take Lantus once a day. I dial up 60 units on the pen and as the pen lasts 5 days it holds 300 units in total. Where I got it wrong is that the leaflet seems to indicate that the pen holds 100 units of insulin and therefore I assumed that 1 unit of insulin must be 3 units on the pen.
Rereading it shows my mistake in that what it really says is that there are 100 units of insulin per ml, therefore 300 units in a 3ml pen.
Again my appologies as the last thing I wanted to do was confuse anybody. The sad news for me is that I had convinced myself that I was taking 20 units a day but its really 60. Never mind
