How old were you when you first diagnosed with type 1?? And how long do you have it??

May 1999, I was 11 and on holiday in Marmaris, Turkey. Have to say I've had better holidays. Health service was rubbish they nearly killed me, bless the nurse from Leeds that the embassy flew out to help me. X

I thought that should be a great idea to share our experiences;)

I got diagnosed by 21 and have it now for 6 weeks, but my doc told me he never had a patient that handled it so well:D

I was 34 and that was 23 years ago. Having said that, I was first tested at the age of 18 and think it was missed for a long time. My specialist thinks I was always T1 and they just missed it. Explains why I never felt too well. So far no complications, touch wood! Insulin 4x a day.

Malmal when I was diagnosed I think I (well my mum) recieved disability for me but when I went to college at 17/18 it stopped as I was no longer dependant on anyone.

36, 8 years ago. Misdiagnosed as type 2?due to my age, ended up in DKA in intensive care before being rediagnosed type 1.

I was 10 when I was diagnosed, so 18 years ago.. had been feeling unwell for a while, but not thinking much of it.. I came home form school the one day and was very badly ill, my mum called the docs who refused to come out to me and said I probably had meningitis.. mum kept me close to her that night, and the next morning she woke up to find me unconscious :( Was like that for several days and kept in ICU until I 'woke up', then had a lovely 2 week stay in hospital..
