Hi All,

Trying to interpret what the following results may mean in terms of insulin resistance for a fairly recent T2 diabetic diagnosis. Test was done privately via Randox while fasted.

BG - 4.3 - mmol/mol
HbA1c - 34 mmol/mol
Insulin - 53 pmol/l (Randox range is <17.8 is Low, 17.8-173 is Optimal and >173 is High).

I understand (correct me if wrong) that BG and HbA1c are very good and similar to non-diabetics. However unsure of what the Insulin number means in terms of level of insulin produced and/or resistance as the optimal range is quite wide?

Any thoughts?

FBG is great
HbA1c is great
According to this calculator

HOMA IR of 1.7 is fine too so nothing to worry about?

What were the HbA1c levels that led to a T2 diagnosis?

Hi there, thank you both for responding.

@bulkbiker
two months ago the hba1c (first time I ever had hba1c checked) was 53.

Looking at the homa ir page it suggests that I have low insulin resistance which is good I think as you say?

Based on these figures does it suggest a non diabetic state or would further metrics such a c peptide test assist?

The reasoning for my curiosity is trying to measure as far as possible whether my current bodies state is diabetic - I think my next steps may be a OGTT test?

Purely based on the figures it would appear you would not be diagnosed with T2 if you presented today with those results.

Was the test 2 months ago a "health check" or had you had concerns that led to the test being carried out?

Thanks that's helpful to know. The test two months ago was on the back of suddenly needing to pass urine during the night

BG great!
Hba1c perfect.
Insulin, not bad at all.

Overall, that test provides a non diabetic, non hypoglycaemia fasting levels.

What happens after you eat?
If the test was trying to look for something, they didn't find it!
Is there any follow up tests?
