Hello All

I have been using this insulin since the middle of August this year along with 2 x 1000mg metformin and dapaglifizin each day. As yet the units of insulin have not been sorted and I'm having side effects from it. I am very tired, terrible headaches which lead to migraines and my body aches. The diabetic nurse just tells me that it has nothing to do with the insulin however, that is the only change to my medication and lifestyle. The pharmacist did say it could be the insulin.

Have anyone out there had similar experiences.

Hi. Are you also having a low-carb diet? If not do cut the carbs but you may need to also reduce the insulin to avoid hypos and that must help.

Yes I test my blood sugar and it is erratic for no reason. Sometimes it is really good and within the expected ranges, other times higher. My diet is good, I don't go overboard with carbs. While my sugars have dropped a few times these are symptoms I get on a daily basis and not the same as having a hypo.

The symptoms you're presenting fit those of hyperglycemia. What sort of readings are you getting and can your meter display an average BG?

Another thought - is it possible that it's connected to the dapaglifizin? Google shows headaches as a side effect of that. I know you said that the only change in your medication is your insulin, but Imdo think its worth ruling that out in case it's related. Side effects don't always happen immediately.

If I was you, I'd speak to yourbdoctor about that and get a general checkover at the same time too. It sounds like you're feeling really rough and we mustn't assume it's related to your diabetes.

If there is no non-diabetic issue, then it's possible your blood sugar might be too blame eg if you're waking with what feels like a migraine, then maybe that's due to an unnoticed low in the night?

You've said your insulin doses are still being sorted, which does imply there may be adjustments to be made.

To check for this, you could set an alarm to get up and test in the night.

I had to stop using Humalog because it was making me feel ill, but headaches weren't one of my symptoms. As a final thing to try, you could request a change of insulin. Analogue insulins (the most modern type) have been connected to bad reactions in a small number of people.
