Can someone please explain why my nurse has said that the insulin I inject in the morning, shows in Blood sugar results in the evening and the evening injection shows up the following morning.

Many thanks,

Well, because you are on mixed insulin, each dose you give will contain a quick acting portion and a slow acting portion, the quick acting may last up to 6 hours, while the slow acting will go on for a while longer......these timings will start again when the next dose is given....

I think what your nurse is trying to show you is that in order to evaluate your breakfast dose you need to look at your evening meal test.......if its high at evening meal, you either adjust the breakfast dose or cut the carbs, and vice versa....

same goes with your waking levels, the dose responsible for your waking number is your evening meal dose.....if you wake high, more insulin is needed at evening meal or less carbs, and vice versa.....

ultimately, a mixed insulin isn't very flexible and you cant achieve the precise and accurate results most of us are used to in our daily lives....
