hypoglycemia can't sleep

My gf was recently told she has hypoglycemia and is trying to change her diet. Problem is during the day she's feeling fatigue and very sleepy that she can't keep her eyes open. At night she can't sleep and when she does sleep her whole body hurts her, she gets aniexty, restless, and very frustrated. We are not sure what to do at this point to help her feel better. She's already coming to a point of giving up. How can I help her or what support can I give her? Any suggestions?

Welcome @abigailcerda22 :)

Can you give some more details about your gf's diagnosis? Has she been given any medication or diet plan? Is she testing her own blood sugar at home?

What was her actually diagnosis - that is, the exact phrase the doctor used?

Assuming that the hypoglycemia diagnosis was from a Dr/Consultant then I would suggest your girlfriend follows their guidance, but as @azure says if you provide more information the forum members will try and assist in any way they can. Best wishes.

Hi, I have a form of hypoglycaemia.
We will try and help your girlfriend as much as we can.
But we cannot diagnose her, we need more information to help.
Most forms of hypoglycaemia will benefit with a change of diet.
The fatigue with the tiredness, anxiety are asymptomatic with Hypoglycaemia.

We do have our own forum. Please ask your girlfriend to read through it.

It sounds like she might be experiencing hypoglycaemia overnight (I have type 1 diabetes and the symptoms are similar to mine). You can investigate whether this is the case by buying a glucose meter.

A short-term solution may be to try eating a decent helping of chocolate before sleep, and if she gets woken up at night. Chocolate digests reasonably slowly so may help raise blood sugar for a couple of hours.

This might help catch up on sleep but you really need to get to the bottom of the problem ASAP. It seems odd that she is having recurrent hypoglycaemia overnight; I would wonder if there is an underlying medical problem beyond diet.

I had that problem of being dog tired during the day but unable to sleep at night - but I was then diagnosed with a defunct thyroid gland.
The Thyroxine sorted it out in days, so I am pretty sure that is what it was.
Thyroid problems are notoriously hard to diagnose - I had several tests before the diagnosis, as it took some time to get the appointment for the doctor and then for the blood test, and thyroids can fade and recover over and over before they finally give out. Apparently lower than normal sublingual temperatures are pretty classic symptoms of reduced thyroid activity - but I had that for ages before diagnosis and the doctor just laughed and said that I wasn't doing it right - I have really been unlucky with doctors - but you can test it quite easily and your doctor might be more interested.
