Talking about my diabetes (wonder why I'm here then...)
Hello all

Sorry if this is a funny question but how do you act when you have hypos while having sexual intercourse?
It has happened to me and it kind of spoils everything to say the least. And it scares my boyfriend and he is always anxious when we do it.....
I don't know if some have been in the same case and can give advice.

prevention better than cure in these circumstances. I always test before hand and if you find you regularly drop during or afterwards take on some carbs or small amount of Lucozade (other fast acting sugary drinks available) prior. Now pumping so as I'm disconnected during I find that counter acts the drop so now fortunately no longer happens during intimate relations

Doesn't sound like you are recognising the hypo's well enough.....

I keep my favourite hypo stoppers (maomi pinballs) in a container on side of bed and will just eat a couple of these before, during or after .. Lol:))

Your hypo's during these times will be specific to yourself.. I know mine would be horrendous sweating and thats enough to know to eat a couple pinballs (normally 3 actually).

It depends on how bad you are going.. My hubby doesn't react just if I hadn't realised he would offer me a pinball as a sort of nudge...

Are you actually needing assistance when this happens?

Thanks for the answers
I don't really need assistance except if I forget to act quick enough because...well....I'm too much occupied!!
I try to keep a snack within reach but prevention sounds good
I tend to sweat a lot too and start trembling as well

Well done for asking the question!
I wonder how many people there are who have the problem, but would never get round to asking...

:D

Are you one of them Brunneria?
Thanx anyway....

Speaking from a male point of view, it becomes immediately obvious if I become low during intercourse... Ahem!

As Brett says, testing beforehand will help prevent an hypoglycaemic episode occurring, but if you do go hypo then something quick like Lucozade would be the best treatment.

Thank you for the help...

For a planned session I do a blood test beforehand (just like driving or operating heavy machinery, ahem). It's not the most romantic thing if you are just being spontaneous of course. So I keep some hypo supplies handy in the bedroom. And the living room. And the kitchen. And the garage. OK just kidding. :-)

Honestly the hardest thing about it is stopping the proceedings if I feel hypo. That's embarrassing and hard to do. I have learned to get through the embarrassment and disappointment and my partner is understanding. She'd rather deal with that than a severe hypo.

From my experience hypos are more common after sex than during and I do try to keep conscious of that and have a snack after. If you don't have time to test beforehand in a spontaneous situation then you could take a small snack just as a precaution. If it's happening to you often then a precautionary snack might be a good idea.

Only long memories from me I'm afraid :wideyed:
Very helpful posts from members :) it's decorating that often give's me hypo's ;)

This happened to me last night, but hasn't happened that often..........

Unfortunately I had to stop and treat.........others times I have just galloped home to the finish line.....;)

I knew earlier that night that I had a little extra insulin on board than I thought, but I simply forgot.....

I don't know how different the experience would be for a girl, I imagine much the same.......although I wasn't able to get going again if you know what I mean.....or at least I wasn't for a half hour after I treated and by that time we were both off to the land of nod......

I would try and help your boyfriend forget your diabetic.......its shouldn't really be at the front of his mind really at this time anyway, so subtly check your blood sugar before if you can and if you do feel hypo don't make a big deal about it.... ..

if his anxiety progresses further I would imagine it could end up being harmful to the sexual relationship, more than if it was just you getting anxious....

It's all part of growing up :) Like having the TV remote handy for afterwards ;)

BTW...I've heard you need a heavy licence for what you're packing

Yes 3 minutes can make a massive difference when having a hypo. ;-)

Thank you all for your answers and advice!!
Actually my boyfriend is anxious that it may bring me to serious problems not because I'm spoiling his moment so I have talked to him about your tips and he said you were all wonderful!!! That's what he said!!! The only problem he says is that having all this treats by the bedside is going to make him hungry!!!! He definitly has a sweet tooth!!
So thank you all again I'm glad I've found this forum!!!
