I've noticed we've had a fair few posts recently by people believing they've just had a hypo, however on further questioning, none of these people are on any hypo inducing medication. Just seems odd that we have this sudden spate of queries.

I'm just wondering if with the hot weather people attribute the symptoms of heat fatigue as a hypo, or is somebody spreading false info about hypos and diabetes?

(I'm not dissing these people and I'm sure they may well have suffered a hypo like experience but not an actual hypo!)

Likely the former rather than the latter.

Anyone can experience low bg levels, when my eldest was an infant he would sometimes feel faint when particularly active, my wife took him to the Dr's who explained that children have high energy needs and it could be that his bg levels were dropping when he experienced these episodes, the Dr said we should ensure that he snacked regularly between meals so we did just that and never had any issues thereafter.

@slip I think diabetes is linked with hypos in many people's minds - possibly due to people with diabetes often being used for dramatic effect in tv shows and films. My heart sinks when someone with diabetes appears in a film because they're usually going to have some kind of hypo crisis, etc.

I was once injecting at a wedding and was politely explaining I had diabetes to the girl sitting beside me, but she immediately leapt in and said that she knew all about diabetes because that was 'when you suddenly pass out'. No mention of insulin or diet or anything else! : D

a hypo in itself is just low blood sugar I suppose but in a diabetic setting such as this we all consider it to be a scenario where the hypoee is unable to naturally recover from it......
