Don't we have enough trouble on the forum at the moment without you starting a club with the explicit intention of excluding me because my stick isn't purple enough. It's discrimination I tell you :thumbdown:
 
Well, obviously you're not trying hard enough, are you Stephen and no, a wee stick coloured in with felt tip doesn't count. I want to smell the ketosis.

As you can see. Purple is in the eye of the beholder (or more like the wee-stick holder).

I'm sorry SweetHeart. Don't tell wiflib, but I haven't seen any purple this week, although I know I must be in ketosis because I smell like an old tramp. Mark Sissons reckons that if you are truely keto-adapted you burn all your ketones and don't spill them into your urine, so it could just be that we are better at it than her.
 
Lucy, there are some of us here who eat less that 30g of carbs a day (some even less) to control our BS levels and to go into a state called ketosis. Put simply, this is when the body burns fat for fuel and energy and not glucose. It's completely different to ketoacidosis which is a life threatening condition.

If you are an extreme low-carber with good BG control then, yes. It means that you are in ketosis, as wiflib said, and burning fat for energy rather than glucose. If you are in ketosis it means that no only do you have excellent control, but also that you're probably losing weight (the Atkins diet induction is basically a ketogenic diet).
 
Not if your BS is high, no. This needs medical intervention and as Jopar (?) I think once mentioned, BS doesn't have to be really high for ketones in your wee to be a dangerious thing. This is most commonly seen in insulin using diabetics and those admitted to A&E, before diagnosis is made.
