Prior to being diagnosed with hypothyroidism and poor vitamin levels .
I could 'drop' sleep when simply sat down to do a job or chore .
Like write a list , sew an item of clothing , read a daily newspaper .
Zonk - I was asleep in a nano second of time .

If you still feel same upon your return , do vist your GP .
You are only young at 23yrs too - you should be full of lively youthful energy .
If tiredness or weariness is making things feel a battle ?
Maybe a chat with your GP is needed .

I think I'm going to have to.
When I get back I'm going to lose some weight and my pump should be waiting for me so I'll have a lot of fun things to look forward to :)
If I can't stay awake long enough to enjoy my day then I'm definite going to go to my gp. The problem with him though is that he thinks everything is related to my diabetes and I don't think that this is.
I could chop my finger off and it'll be diabetes related lol

I gave into this years ago. I can remember being on a course and in the lunch break there was half an hour to spare so the lunch party went back to their rooms and had a nap. I never slept so deeply elsewhere and I felt refreshed. I acquired the habit.

Even now I tend to yawn and have "ten minutes" after lunch if the opportunity presents itself. It's one of life's luxuries.

I also get up early and go to bed early so a midday nap is merely topping me up.

If you haven't already done so, I'd suggest having your Vitamin D3, B12 and iron levels tested - all of these can cause fatigue and lack of energy.
Getting my Vitamin D3 levels correct was like having a light switched on for me. I couldn't believe something so simple could have such an impact.

I'm not working at the moment so I don't think it's because I'm tired from doing too much. I don't have a clue what it is.
If I sit down then that's it, I'm asleep!
If things are still the same after I've been away I'll go to the doctors, I'm missing a part of my day! It doesn't feel like a healthy tiredness either. It hits me and I can't fight it.

I know how you feel, I used to wake up after a good 8-10 hour sleep and be yawning my head off by lunch time. By the time it got to around 5 in the evening I was wasted. As soon as I sat down to get comfortable that was it, I was out and I would wake up after midnight. I inject twice a day and falling to sleep within an hour or two of my evening injection was causing me major problems with hypo's. I went to my doctor and asked about it but he didn't have a clue as to why it was happening so I just did the best I could, lowering my evening insulin dose when I could see I was going to struggle to keep awake (most days). I thought it might have been because I was used to working nights for a long time but it carried on long after I stopped. Just got to hang on in there and hopefully it'll pass like mine did

Hi

I have been having trouble trying to stay awake for the last 19 years and have tried everything. The doctor even prescribed antidepressants as they thought I was depressed. I became convinced I wasn't depressed and sought the opinion of another doctor. She believes I may be suffering from Sleep Apnea which, I understand, is common in people with diabetes.

I have been to the sleep clinic for tests and am awaiting the results. Perhaps you should investigate this possibility as well?

Hope this helps.

Hello fellow noddy offers, yes I have times when off to sleep I go and don't even notice, until I get woken up by my carer or the dog wanting to go out. I was told I need to take iron as my levels were/are low, but after a week or two, my stomach could not cope with the lack of waste removal, so I stopped taking them. I have not thought about getting my VitD 3 levels checked, I sometimes take a vit D 3 suppliment to help with my bones along with calcium, and some times take B group with Biotin, so I guess I need to go without to have the blood tests done.
Lazy doctors who blame diabetes for everything are a disgrace and should be given a wake up call, you can be out of sorts with diabetes, but not all the time.
I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid, and commenced treatment, before I was told I was T2, and the specialist who I see from time to time told me to lower my levothyroxene, as I had to look after my bones, I have ostearthritis as well. I found that having some protein was beneficial to my energy levels, when I am feeling down I have a mini snack of some cheese, and a cup of tea, and I pick up. I have heard that having a banana at bedtime can help with sleep, as the potassium is good for sleep pattens, I have had a banana and slept well. Look forward to hearing you prgress posts, and any ways to beat the nodding off problems, well ttfn.

I would also say go to your doctor, I found out I'm prediabetic about 6 weeks ago and despite watching what I eat very closely I've been putting on weight and I've been feeling absolutely shattered. It seems to be worse in the morning and evening so I told my doctor and she ordered thyroid and anaemia tests. Your doctor knows your medical history so they're the best person to advise you.

As Indy51 says some of the levels of vitamins etc could be out. For me I have to have a vitamin B12 injection every three months (I think it's due to the metformin?). I noticed the other day I was feeling a bit tired, thought perhaps the late night football, but then I checked my last injection and it was 5 months ago, so I need to go and get a topup injection asap.(it has to be an injection, tablets aren't good enough - though I have never checked why.)

I may well ask the nurse about having my vitamin levels checked and see if I need any, and go on to them, maybe injection form sounds interesting and faster for the body to make use of.

It's not as fun as you might think. You have to have one injection a day over five or six days to build it up, then one every three months. It stings a little, but not as bad as a tooth injection. It's why I am annoyed I have missed my usual date - stupid iPhone! (or me)

I have been suffering the same. Might be worth looking at your red blood cell count. Mine has been raised for sometime, only slightly but enough that my new consultant noticed. He tied it with my tiredness, sleeping erratically and thinks I may have sleep apnoea. If its not this it could be anaemia or few other things. I would definitely get it checked out. I always put it down to my diabetes but as someone said earlier it is easy to get tunnel vision when there may be other things going on
Here is a link to test for likelihood of sleep apnoea

Good luck, I hope you find an answer :)

Thanks for your replies.

I'm back from my holiday now and was falling asleep whilst I was there :( it hasn't been too bad this week though, I've started a new diet this week and have felt a lot better in myself, it could just have been because I was shovelling a load of junk food in which was making me feel rubbish.

I hate going to the doctors, I only tend to go if I'm really really poorly!!

I usually go when I have a few things wrong and get them all sorted at the same time!
I don't go nearly as often as I should

I have the same problem. I only have to have the tiniest bit of sugar and I just go to sleep. It's like I pass out when I wake up I feel terrible. I have had this for a few years. if I have a couple of squares of dark chocolate I go into a stupor.

I do not have diabetes
Can someone help me please?

I can't stay awake. I'm 23, bg levels are fine, below 10 most of the time but I just can not stay awake all day.

Usually around about now I have to have a nap for an hour or so, I can't fight it and it happens most days.
Thinking about it it's been happening for a few months now.

Just tested bg and it's 8.4 but I need a nap :(

There are so many reasons for falling asleep during the day - sleep apnoea, narcolepsy, drugs and drug withdrawal etc.. but, please remember, metformin (if you are taking it) CAN cause your Vitamin B12 levels to fall (especially long term) so well worth checking those and if you have anaemia...
