but if it is well controlled does it still constitute a risk? 5 years ago mine was 163/95 at diagnosis and probably had been rising for some years prior to that. I was put on medication which brought it down to normal levels. Most weeks it averages at below 120 systolic. Now my HbA1c is into the prediabetic level and I wonder if the hypertension is a factor; if not where have these higher than normal glucose levels come from? The only person in my family who had it was my grandmother and that was back in the 1950s . She was the same age at diagnosis as I am now - 75. I have my own meter but am still learning how to use it.
