When I saw the dietician, about 12 years ago, when first diagnosed with IGT she told me what I could not eat (seemed like everything I liked at the time) and then what I could eat. I asked what I could eat instead of biscuits..... breadsticks she told me ( how un-exciting are they!) and muffins..... well, that pleased me. If we were out and I had a coffee I would buy a muffin to eat too, it was ages later the penny dropped- she meant a ´bread´ type muffin and not a blueberry, choc-chip or any other sort of sweet muffin

What misunderstandings has anyone here had regarding food?

The biggest misunderstanding about food is the Diabetes UK diet promoted by dietitians (including yours) & the NHS. The 50% starchy carb diet is poison for diabetics & causes the disease to be progressive. I proved by following their diet carefully for over 7 years until crippling & debilitating complications set in.

Cutting out the carbs & increasing proteins & fats restored my health. 5 years on I am in good health & fitness.

Have you looked at the carb content of 'bready' muffins; not good. If I do have them I go for Duchy ones from Waitrose as they are wholemeal with some grains

My favourite...from a DN nurse specialist..."eat whole meal bread".

I am Coeliac ...and laughed at her instructions...and have told this story often to my Coeliac friends...

Oh..the other one....always want to measure my waist as a guide to my health. Rest of me is fit...(I swim etc, no bingo wings!!)) but the middle bit...no. I wouldnt mind half so much if the DN person was on front page of Vogue as being a picture of health..she isnt...and weighs a LOT more than I do....

Meiow!! (Smokie would be so pleased!!)

My sisters doctor told her not to test her blood, no need, ´just follow the healthy diet plan, just like I do´ My sister was tempted to tell the doctor her healthy eating plan was not working, sister said the doctor was VERY fat
