I'm sorry, But you have Type 1 Diabetes.

It's funny in the fact that I already knew I had type 1 diabetes before I was taken to the hospital to get checked out. I knew I had it, I knew the consequences, but I didn't really care about them? I still don't. This 'illness' was supposed to be my way out. But now it's just hell.
 
Sorry you're feeling so unhappy at the moment. Although you say you knew you had it it must still a bit of a shock to be diagnosed. It certainly was for me!

I hope you find some helpful information on the forum and begin to understand more about how to look after yourself. This is really important because as you probably already know high blood sugar leads to complications.

It may take a while to come to terms with being diagnosed but this is a really good place to vent your frustration or ask questions. I think it took me years to finally accept type 1 diabetes is not going anywhere and I have to control it or it'll end up controlling me.

How is your diagnosis a way out?

Shock is quite a normal reaction to diagnosis. Educate yourself and you soon begin to realise it's actually not the end of the world. Some minor lifestyle adjustments and you are soon managing diabetes instead of the reverse. Hope you begin to feel more positive soon.

As you will find on the forum, there are many T1/T1.5 on insulin who have gone thru the same feelings. You do get used to managing it and coming out the other side and by doing that you avoid the bad long-term symptoms. If you feel you need help with depression or someone to talk to then do seek help from one of the many charities. I do support work for Mind and I know they can help a lot; there are other good charities. Some areas have local diabetes groups organised by Diabetes UK; contact them to find out.
 
No one forgets the shock having been told they have diabetes and the emotions that follow the diagnosis, however the treatment of diabetes and the tools available have come on a long way in the last few decades and there's no reason why anyone can't live a full and active life, there's a good support network out there and you also have this forum to share your problems with and to ask for any advice.

I'm sorry you feel so lousy. Have a moan to us and we can try to help. There are loads of great people with Type 1 and Type 2 who can offer their opinions. And lots of advice if you want it.

Hi,

Don't beat yourself up for feeling as you do right now, we've all been there in one form or another, you'll find an awful lot of great people on here such as the people who have already replied, the one thing that brings us all together is being T1. It was only weeks ago that I was in meltdown after being diagnosed. Fast forward a few weeks and I've never felt better. I laugh more, I eat better, I sleep well. I look and feel much better than I can remember in years. Go ahead and cry, kick things, swear randomly and scream. Once you've done all that, be sure to come back on here and natter. You'll see that things are nowhere near as bad as you may think.
