I haven't taen my insulin in such a long time. My kidneys started to hurt yesterday - today they're agony, I have chest pains and I feel so sick. I tried to get a doctors appointment this morning but with no success. Anyone have any tips? I'm stuck in work just about crying with pain. TIA, Cait

get yourself to A&E it might be DKA if your sugars high, you may also be passing a kidney stone..lots of things really could be the cause

Hi see if you get an emergency appointment with any GP at your surgery or even better get your self off to A&E asap.
If you haven't been taking your insulin, then you are playing with your health and the consequences could be severe.
Have you still been testing your BS with a meter? but only you know why you are doing what you are doing, it's not good:(
Please let us know how you get on, you must get some medical help. Good luck and best wishes

I couldn't get an emergency appointment with any doctor. the nearest a&e is a 45 minute drive away and I don't drive. They really need me in work today so I'm scared to say anything - as far as they're aware I'm fine. Stuck between a rock and a hard place

Is there a reason you haven't taken your insulin?

At this stage I would be inclined to say you need to get yourself to A&E since DKA is a distinct possibility.
Get hold of NHS Direct, well whatever they are calling it now anyway, on 111.

Do you know what your blood glucose levels are and if you have any ketones?

I think you really need to take care of this today potentially.

If you become really ill through not getting the medical help you need they may not have you in work for some time .Get someone at work to take you to A&E

Go to A & E, get someone to drive you, your health must come first. DO IT NOW please, it could get far more serious the longer you leave it.

I haven't taken it for around 2 years, due to diabulimia. I know my bloods are high, they're always high. Not sure about ketones, I have nothing to test those with

I was going to suggest you go to a chemist to get ketostrips, but if you can get to a chemist you can get to A&E.
bite the bullet, and you may be concerned about criticism for not taking your meds, believe me they have seen it before and you aren't an orphan there. they will treat what's wrong then you can do what you want afterwards, take or not take insulin is your choice.

Caity - I'm not sure how you haven't ended up in hospital already... Type 1 going on 2 years without insulin???

I think your body is telling you it really needs to be seen by a specialist. Kidneys don't hurt for no reason.

The hospital will, you really do need to get medical assistance, GO:doctor:

Hi. I can only add that you must go to A&E if you possibly can. Do test your blood sugar now to find out just how high it is. If you have any insulin within date then take the right dose if your sugar is high. If you drive don't forget to measure your level. Have plenty of water. Your pain could be many things so A&E is important.

I tested my sugars and all my meter is saying is 'hi' so I must be off the scale. Spoke to my boss but not allowed to leave work as nobody else can cover me tonight

Does your boss realise the seriousness of what is happening to you? Have you told him?

If I was your boss I would drive you to A@E. He may have to call an ambulance soon.

absolutely agree with Catherine, please get to A and E or ring 999 and explain to the responders yourself.
I'm an old person who moans at people wasting ambulance time but if you are T1, have no insulin in your system, have very high glucose and abdominal pains then you need help.
Edit : I also think Daibel is correct about insulin if you have it .

I agree with the others. Perhaps you could tell your boss you think you may have DKA and show him/her the symptoms. Maybe when they realise how serious it is they will release you from work.

If they don't I would just walk out. what's more important- your health or your job?

Phone an ambulance now!! This is urgent. To be honest, I'm surprised you're alive after no insulin for 2 years. I'm sorry for being so candid, but you could very easily be close to death. Please go to hospital!

A friend of mine was diabetic, didn't take insulin like you and died of kidney failure when she was 19.

Hi Caity

Please as all the others have said seek some help quickly. Your health comes first. A blood sugar reading of Hi plus pains and feeling really unwell is not good. I had diabulimia and anorexia for years and did not seek help because I knew that insulin was the answer and to me insulin only meant weight gain. It really doesn't have to be like that, there is a happy balance. Please seek medical help now so that you can enjoy your life and job.

Hey Caity - where are you, can someone here take you to a&e ?

You really need support at the moment, not taking insulin is damaging your body now and you know this, your health is so important you don't need me to tell you that but it sounds like me that you need someone to talk to, please do something positive for yourself and get some help, you can get better Hun ;)
