Hi Stopped medication 2 weeks ago today without telling Doc some may say silly but I had to do it as I was getting no answers

anyway I've lost 76 pounds in 15 weeks on the Blood Sugar Diet my meter is still between 5 & 7 morning and night and similar 2 hours after eating last HBA1C 8 or 66 % on 10th August about 3 weeks in to my diet , for obvious reason's I feel better just a bit worried that my next check on 10th November will undo the good work , any advice or personal experience is much appreciated cheers

If you've made sufficient changes to your diet and lifestyle to warrant not needing medication then there won't be an issue. But to be sure on that you will need to keep a very close eye on your BG.

If it were me, I wouldn't stop taking medication without the approval of a medical professional. After all, there was a reason that it was prescribed initially.

Make sure that you keep a close watch on those blood sugars in case you end up in bother.

Hi Grant , thanks for prompt reply , I have been keeping an eye and they haven't changed much at all , I think the exercise has helped keep it under decent control I just wondered what if any impact stopping the meds would affect my HBA1C check on 10th November

If you are well controlled by diet ad exercise then you should be fine. I stopped mine after 3 weeks of upset tums and the next HbA1c was so good the nurse presumed I was still taking them. Was a bit perplexed when informed that I wasn't.. didn't fit with her "diabetes is a progressive disease and you will end up on insulin" mantra.

No problem:)

You have lost an incredible amount of weight so there is no question that this has made a significant impact to your BG levels. Well done!

I'm not sure about the "Blood Sugar" diet, what it is (or entails) - but watch that if/when you revert to normal eating habits that your BG doesn't creep up. You may find that the impact on your BG is more noticeable without the help of the medication which you were prescribed.

As for your HbA1c; providing that your blood glucose levels are remaining stable enough through diet/exercise alone - then you shouldn't see an increase on your last result. But, that is only speculative. The only way to ascertain whether you do (or do not) need the medication you were advised to take, will be from a direct comparison from two HbA1c tests. One with the medication and one without.

Good luck to you:)

No I'm a type 1 diabetic and fairly recent at that - 04/14.

I've never taken the medication you're prescribed; but I'm confident that I'm right in what I've said. If not, I'll soon be corrected:)

Cheers - do you control with insulin ?

Well done on your fantastic weight loss. I don't know about your meds question, but I fail to see how your hba1c will not be better in November. Have a look at this link http://www.diabetes.co.uk/hba1c-units-converter.html At your last hba1c of 66, you would have been averaging over 10 throughout the day. You are now between 5 & 7 throughout the day. It is only an approximation, but you get the idea. All the best.

Thanks very much are you type 2

Your numbers are definitely going in the right direction and unless you are spiking for elevated periods should see a significant drop in HbA1C. I have seen numerous videos and TV programmes such as The Doctor who gave up drugs, The Retreat, Simply Raw Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days (
) where in a few weeks diabetes drug dependency is either completely removed of severely reduced, when calories have been restricted. The below screenshot showed remarkable reductions in insulin requirements after just 16 days on a plant based diet (
)

I have the blood sugar diet (as a reference - haven't tried it) so reckon you are onto a good thing. As mentioned in an earlier post you should watch the after diet lifestyle.

Thanks for all this your own numbers are good i think i should have stuck with 2 metforfun a day rather than 4

Youve had great results some effort well done - my main concern is that ive had it 10 years not sure how reverseible im hoping to put it in remission if thats the right term ??
Yeah I consider myself as controlled. I'm sure if I went back to eating carbs my symptoms would return. So i just keep ultra low carb and try to follow a ketogenic diet. Also with a bit of fasting I can get my numbers down very low. Seems to have worked.. still trying to loose more weight so I can be overweight and not obese any more!

Ironically this morning my fasting BS was 8.2 Highest it's been in a while onwards & upwards

My BS is always highest in the morning, due to dawn phenomenon I've been told. If you have changed your diet you will have to at least reduce meds, particularly gliclazide, or you would get hypos. If you've stopped meds and BS 5-7 that's great! Well done.
