My surgery has informed me that I have pre-diabetes and has given me various suggestions regarding my future life style. I am looking at an air fryer to possibly reduce my calorific intake. Does anybody have any experience with air fryers? Are they found to be beneficial to healthy eating? Any advice regarding what foods are favourable to my condition will be much appreaietd.
 
I have a multi cooker which also has an air fryer. They are very good as you don't need to use oil. Cooks quickly and food is very yummy. Good luck.

Carbs are way more important than calories overall. The nhs is slowly coming to advise this but far too many indiv within it are stuck in the 1980’s anti fat and calorie dogma. Most of those type 2 in here successfully managing their condition and achieving normal levels do so by limiting carbs, not calories. The amount by which they need to do so varies quite a lot.

I'd concur with the comments above re carbs being more important than calories. If you have been told to lose weight because the weight has given you diabetes/ ore diabetes (the same thing essentially) it is more the opposite! that the journey to diabetes caused you to fatten (especially around the waist) which is good in that whatever you do to reduce your average glucose (and by extension your insulin levels that are driving your condition) will help you lose weight.
Turning off or reducing the flow of carbs (of which sugar is only one type) coming into your body will help you use up body fat supplies and normalise your metabolic health without the need to count calories. Focussing on protein and fats will help keep you full but do be careful about nuts and cheese which can be easy to overeat!
It is simple but if you live on bread, rice, pasta and other cereals as well as the more obvious stuff it can be difficult to break the habits of our food culture but I think this is proven to be more effective than counting calories and reducing fat method (this works in the short term only).

As for air fryers, I love my Ninja and its good for getting a crispy feel to vegetables, meat etc. Also means you don't have to use nasty factory seed (aka vegetable) oils which aren't very good either.
 
I have an old Tefal Actifry and it makes a good job of meat - but diabetes is all about carbohydrate, so I cook stirfry in the juices from the meat to keep my blood glucose from spiking.
Having normal levels of blood glucose seems to be a sure way of getting the metabolism back to normal and losing excess weight.

I got my hba1c down to pre diabetic levels by just using normal cooking cevices such as a fry pan, sauce pans, microwave, oven, normal run of the mill stuff.

I have never heard that using a device is a simple remedy for cooking to getting back into recovery.

It's what you eat that's the trick, a moderate LCHF diet , and portion control helped me bring this about.
 
I have an intant pot an airfryer a seperate slowcooker as I don't use the instantpot as a slow cooker I have found it is what you cook in them that makrs the difference not what you cook it in.

By the way the air fryer rarely gets used as I tend to cook for four.
