Infusion sets...

Hi all,

I'm new to pump therapy, I am only 4 weeks in and my control *touch wood* has never been so good. I came off MDI as being on these was like riding on a rollercoaster, one minute it was high, the next minute crashing through the floor.

The issue I am having is with the infusion sets. I am very lean, 5ft 9 and weigh 9 stone. I am unable to use my stomach due to lipohypertrophy and so my nurse initially put me on Sure-T and I was wearing these in my lower back/hip area. Whilst using these I kept getting occlusion alarms saying the insulin flow was blocked. The DSN has since changed me to Mio 30s and no more alarms...hurray! However I am finding these quite difficult to insert due to where they sit and I am finding that I can't even wear jeans anymore as they push in on the cannula and it hurts :(

Has anyone got any suggestions on where else these can be worn or any other type of sets I could try? Can these be used in my stomach even with a bit of lipohypertrophy as they go in on an angle? I did ask about the silhouette but the local CCG here has banned the use of them. Any suggestions would be greatly received :)

Hi @sophc Welcome to the forum :)

Well the silhouette would of been the best set under the circumstances, just unsure why your local CCG has banned them ? Any ideas why ? Can your DSN give you the contact details for your medtronic rep as i'd suggest you speak direct to them about possible solutions. I'm also using the sure-t and only had a blocked flow a couple of times in about 18 months since i was using them, may be worth discussing this with the medtronic rep when you get in touch as they may have a solution too for this, i'm sure something will get sorted for you.

Have you tried in the upper thigh? if the canula length is over 30mm you should be ok. Can be a bit tricky pulling trousers down in case you pull it out. Also if the lipohypertrophy is not bad try around the areas, avoiding them. I was told that you can vary the sites on the abdomen either side of the belly button around to the side. I do use the silhouette cannulas but couldn't tolerate the Sure-T. Hope you have better success with the sites.

Take care

Hi @Juicyj thank you .

Apparently they had reports of them causing internal scarring so they said no and I’m not allowed them. I spoke with the Medtronic rep , he was called Les and he suggested the Mio 30s, I just find them difficult to put in round my back, I don’t think being left handed helps either.

Just a quick question about where you buy your infusion sets in UK - my son is there on a Working holiday from Australia and is running out?
Thanks for your help
