Can anyone suggest the best resolution if i injected twice by accident?
I inject levimir x 2 and Novorapid x 4 daily
I haven't got a 'glucose' injection to counter act the problem should it ever happen.
I can only think my only option would be to Eat LOADS and check results or just get myself to hospital?
I'm sure i am not the only person who sometimes forgets if i have injected and as a result run the risk of injecting TWICE by mistake.

Use your meter to monitor your Bg readings and if dropping too much take some fast acting carbs, juice, glucotabs etc and enough carbs to keep your levels at safe numbers. You do not need to eat 'loads' to cope with this.

Keep a close eye on things and try not to worry too much - these things happen. If you are still concerned contact NHS Direct or your GP.

It depends which one you injected twice, Levemir or Novorapid.

If it's Novorapid then you need to keep a regular check on your blood glucose for approx 4 to 5 hours after you did the injection. I would try to eat or drink enough additional carbs to match the extra Novorapid that you injected.

If it's Levemir then you'd need to keep an eye on your blood glucose for 12 to 24 hours, depending how long Levemir tends to stay in your system. I would check BG regularly and eat additional snacks to fight off hypos. You may find that you'll need to snack little and at regular intervals for this period until the additional Levemir has worked out of your system. You will need to wake regularly through the night to keep an eye on your blood glucose levels. To be on the safe side I'd probably also keep a close eye on my blood glucose for the 24 to 48 period after the injection.

In both instances I would avoid exercise until the additional insulin has worked out of your system and I'd be very wary of driving.

LWA,

Good advice from Ken and Sophia!

As Sophia points out, if it's novo you injected twice you will need to eat extra carbs sufficient enough to cover the extra insulin, even injecting a basal insulin like levemir twice will require extra carbs, so do keep an eye on your bg over the next 24 hour period and be prepared to snack regularly.

It would also be wise to tell someone close to you what you have done so they can keep a eye on you over the coming hours, but as Ken suggested don't hesitate to contact your GP, NHS Direct or your local Emergency Doctor Service should the need arise.

I injected Novo twice for the first time inn 16 years the other week and by the law of sod it was the day I was on CGM  My readings for that night were very interesting indeed!

I did that too on a couple of occasions. Still here, and survived , but I didn't go ott, just worked out how much extra I needed to offset the extra jab. Glad to know that I am not the only one to have done this previously!!!

me too - although i didn't realise it until I was on a walk around a stately home, luckily I went hypo right near the tea room so once I'd had some glucose and realised I needed some more carbs to keep me going, it was....cake time - woo hoo! Every cloud........
