Injections

Well it depends on whether its the weekend or not (weekends I don't get up so early and stay up later :))
On weekdays it's normally
6:35 Fiasp + breakfast
12:30 Fiasp + lunch (lunch + injection on Fridays is about 13:15ish cos we go to the pub for lunch)
18:00 Fiasp + dinner
22:30 Lantus (somewhere between 10 and 11 normally)
Sometimes times change so I just take my Fiasp when I eat, if I have a no carb meal (like an omelette) I don't need to inject.

Sometimes I'll need to inject inbetween for corrections, sometimes I'll be starving between breakfast and lunch so will have a snack and inject if it has carbs, or if anyone brings stuff (ie. cakes and biscuits) into the office and they have specially got me something gluten-free then I have to inject (cos it'd be rude to not have it at that point as GF is not cheap)

Edit: added a few extra comments that I didn't have time for when I posted originally as I needed to put lunch in the microwave whilst it was free

Bit like @Rokaab but I'm on Apidra / Tresiba so most of the time:

06:15ish inject + breakfast
12:00ish inject + lunch
18:00 ~ 17:00 inject plus dinner
10:30ish Tresiba

But that can all change, sometimes I will inject correction does, sometimes if I am low I will eat and inject afterwards sometimes I will inject say 10-15 minutes before eating.

Out of interest why do you ask?

I am on a basal bolus insulin regime and don't think of taking 4 injections.
I inject every time I eat (bolus) and once more (basal).
This means I may snack between meals or miss a meal and just adjust my injection times accordingly.

Typically, I inject 15 minutes before eating but if I don't know what I am eating I am flexible and may inject later.
The basal is always the same time of the day regardless of food, exercise, weather, phase of the moon, ....

I am asking because my doctor wants me to switch to four injections. I don't know what insulin but the thought of four injections puts me right of.

Hi where you say you inject 15 minutes before eating, is that with fast acting? If so what are the benefits

I'm on basal bolus regime
6.30 basal no breakfast
sometimes bolus 15 mins before lunch @13.00
18.30 basal and if needed bolus 15mins before eating

I eat low carb and sometime inject 4 but generally twice or possibly 3 times. Depends where I am and if I'm working or fancy something different or am eating out

There are a fair few around that inject before eating mainly because if you look at profiles for fast acting insulins they always have delay before they start to act. Nova rapid is one of those where people can inject more than 30minutes before eating so that they get the effect of the insulin and not spike later on, so as the carbs hit then the insulin is there to act on them.

Least I'm fairly sure that's the reason.

Can you tell us what puts you off exactly? I would be very put off by the thought of taking your 2 injections and then being forced to eat the same amount of food at the same time every day.
I just don't like thinking of my day including four injections. But you are right about eating the same amount of food at set times .

Hi. You may have no choice. I do my daily Basal (no need to split it) at bedtime and leave the pen on my pillow so it becomes routine. The other three Bolus ones I fit it before the meal and it becomes routine. We all wish we didn't have diabetes but at least it's controllable. My wife has CKD and there is nothing she can do.

Yes, this is fast acting.
The idea is to get the peak insulin action to coincide with the peak carb high to avoid the bg spike.

To me the injecting is a bit like preparing food. It's impossible to eat without making that sandwich, cooking that dinner, scrambling those eggs or calling my local pizza delivery service, just as it's impossible to eat without thinking of amount of insulin needed and usually injecting too.
But i'm very happy I don't need to wake up when it's time for food, my bg doesn't get messed up when eating with friends at unusual times, I can adjust my insulin according to being active or lazy and generally don't have to live by the clock or set alarms.

Like anything new, even having to give one injection a day of insulin seems a real imposition.
As the days, months and years go by it becomes as expected as breathing does.
