Insect bites??

Type of diabetes
Type 2
I have recently been diagnosed with type 2 and am currently taking Metformin and eating a low carb diet. I am currently up to 3 tablets per day. 1 in the morning and 2 in the evening. Today I felt shaky and tested my blood and it was 4.4 which is much lower than it ever has been! I are something and felt okay after about 20 mins.

I must have had diabetes for at least a couple of years! My mood was terrible and I felt extremely irritable/tired... I began to grow quite concerned. Since I e been taking the medication, my energy levels have increased, my mood improved (feel almost human again) and I have lost 2 stones (needed to!)... to get to the point...

I read on here that we have 'sweeter blood' ... I ha e noticed that insects make a bee line (excuse the pun!) for me and every summer I get severely bitten by every biting insect there is, whereas my husband and others in my family get away without bites... could the reduction in blood sugar perhaps make me less attractive to insects? Has anyone else been bitten when other people are

Left alone?

Yes - oh yes - all my life I have been the target of insect bites - I have always had bottles of insect repellent around the house and in my luggage when going out in summer.
Although I have always tried to eat low carb, in the summer when there is fruit about it was always my carb of choice. This year, having a real need for low sugar, it might be different.

I have found the insects / bugs are "equal opportunity" when it comes to biting / stinging here in Australia.

Yes! Me too... I smell of deer all summer, but I was thinking if my blood is not so sweet, they might leave me alone a little! Horseflies are the worst. They won't leave me alone and they always get infected! Fingers crossed...

Biting insects have always loved me x

From personal experience a high %DEET repellent does work against mosquitos and midges. Most folk do get bitten but some react more than others and reaction to bites can be reduced by taking antihisthamine tablets. We spend quite a bit of time in the Scottish Highlands where midges can be a major problem and also on a Greek island where mozziies can be a pest. I don't react much to bites but my wife does and she takes the pills which help a lot.
And if you do get bitten by a mozzie or midge, you can console yourself with the thought that you are feeding a hungry pregnant female as the males don't feed on blood :)
