Insulin out of whack?

Hello lovely people,
Though I'm sure you all are a lovely bunch, with all respect I really hope I'm not diabetic :)
Anyway, I've recently been feeling weirdish - craving sugar, sleepy after meals, sluggish, a bit 'under the weather' you could say. Also gained a bit of weight that I can't seem to be able to lose. The harder I try the more I just seem to put on haha. Which is why I've done the glucose tolerance test and the results are as follows:

Glucose
Fasting 93 mg/dl
1h after the glucose load 51 mg/dl
2h 93 mg/dl

Insulin
Fasting 6.6 ulU/ml (ref range 1.93-23.00)
1h 120.9 ulU/ml (1.93-23.00)
2h 13.9 ulU/ml (1.93-23.00)

Bit dodgy isn't it? Surely something's out of place here. Which is why I had my dad call an endocrinologist friend and she basically brushed it off saying it's fine and it was just my pancreas reacting to the large glucose load. LOL. I'd really appreciate it if you could give me any advice here. Should I go see another endo? Am I dying? When does this drama end?!

Why do you think you are weird?
All them readings and the actions of your pancreas seems normal to me.

Just because you get a few 'symptoms' doesn't necessarily mean that you are anywhere near diabetes.

You are not dying, well, not from diabetes!
The drama never ends, don't you watch soaps?

Hey thanks for the reply! Dunno, I was just caught off guard by the insulin reading an hour after the glucose load. It's five times larger than the reference number and seems a bit too much does't it? Also shouldn't your blood sugar rise after ingesting so much glucose rather than drop to its 50s? Sorry just fishing for some reassurance here!

Hi @Arek_Z :)

Maybe your body just reacted strongly to the sudden intake of sugary liquid? If your dad has checked with an Endo, then that should reassure you.

What's your normal diet? If you have a strong reaction to a load of glucose, then perhaps making sure your meals contain slower acting carbs, protein and fat will help?

If you continue to be concerned, then do get a second opinion. No one here can make a diagnosis, but the fact your blood sugar has returned to normal at two hours should reassure you.

Cheers for putting my mind at rest :angelic: Sounds logical to me.

Many people have fast acting insulin naturally, depending of course of what they eat!
It is particularly fascinating how we cope with what we shove down our throats and how we cope with filling our bodies with tons of food every year.

As was suggested, lots of slow acting fibre and fats will help with your digestion time.
